JOB DESCRIPTION: 

Would you like to be a part of a team that contributes to every stage of the Disney attraction life cycle, from Blue Sky to Sustainment? As a Systems Engineer on the Modeling, Simulation, and Training Tools (MST) team in this Project Hire Role, you will build detailed engineering models used to provide simulation and analysis services internationally for Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI), Park Operations Line of Business, Transportation, Engineering Services, Entertainment, and other Global Engineering & Technology partners. 

These services include developing system-level simulations of our rides and attractions, Software-In-the-Loop (SIL) or Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) software design/testing platforms, multi-agent simulations, large-scale transportation simulations, in-house engineering software tools, statistical analysis applications, virtual training systems, and development of signal processing and optimization algorithms.

This on-site role is based in Glendale, CA, and will be reporting to the Manager of Software Engineering.

You Will: 

As a Systems Engineer, you will be a designer and developer of our attraction models built with our suite of in-house engineering tools. You will work with a versatile team of engineers, in a hybrid work environment.

On any given day, you might:

  • Develop and maintain detailed systems level and functional level physics-based simulations using various software languages and development environments.
  • Develop and maintain applications and drivers that communicate with control system hardware.
  • Support efforts for the analysis and review process for new proposed engineering software tools.
  • Develop and present optimized design options for existing and proposed attractions.
  • Participate in design reviews of attraction modifications proposed as a result of simulation studies.
  • Learn and apply standard engineering techniques and ensure that assigned designs follow appropriate regulatory codes.
  • Partner with Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) Creative, WDI Ride, and Industrial Engineering for attraction simulation development to include the correct show, attraction, and guest distribution requirements.
  • Assist in writing proposals that include job assignments, scopes of work, validation plans and procedures.
  • Work with Industrial Engineering in verifying ride or attraction performance against predicted simulation response.
  • Assist in supporting Global Engineering & Technology teams in the application of dynamic analysis techniques.
  • Influence decisions on tools and software platforms for analyses.
  • Apply and develop supporting software tools.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Proficient in an object-oriented coding language and object-oriented design principles.
  • Demonstrated experience with C, C++, and/or C#.
  • Ability to develop, debug, and test software.
  • Proficient in use of engineering software and software development environments (e.g., Visual Studio).
  • Familiar with Agile software development practices, including scrum, sprint planning, retrospectives, etc.
  • Familiar with continuous integration tools like GitLab CI.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and assess software errors to develop and implement solutions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting directly with customers and users.
  • Proficient developing Windows desktop applications.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Minimum of one year of working in a related role in the entertainment or general engineering industries.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Ride and Show Control Systems.
  • Experience with Systems Engineering concepts and tools (SysML, IDEF0).
  • Experience with scripting languages including PowerShell and Python.
  • Experience with Unity3D or Unreal game engine.
  • Experience developing web applications.
  • Experience with SQL databases.
  • Experience with PLC hardware, programming, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with writing unit tests and regression test documentation for software.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: 

  • Proven Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Equivalent from ABET certified curriculum.

PREFERRED EDUCATION: 

  •  Proven post graduate engineering degree.
The hiring range for this position is $107,100 to $130,700 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
