Our Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. We touch nearly every element of the services value stream from procurement to design and manufacturing to distribution. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurement and the design and manufacture of Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters). 

As the Manager, Logistics you will be responsible for assuring the facilities product meets both Caterpillar’s internal and external customer specifications.

What You Will Do:

  • Manages all facility Logistics and Supply Chain functions and reports to the Facility Manager.
  • Manages an organization consisting of approximately six (6) management/support employees and approximately twenty (20) Material Specialists supporting production on all shifts (not directly supervising).
  • Provides leadership in all Supply Chain/Logistics functions including production scheduling, S&OP, material planning, kitting, internal trucking, and dock services.
  • Manages and optimizes direct and indirect inventory levels and is the liaison for the onsite crib support.
  • Will engage with facility OEM customer Commercial groups.
  • Works with suppliers and procurement teams to improve supplier delivery performance.
  • Lead the supply chain optimization efforts for the facility.
  • Responsible for planning, execution, and implementation of all logistics related capital investments.
  • Owns administration of the facility’s returnable container program.
  • Responsible for training, motivating, and development of employees.
  • Drives root cause analysis and resolution on all forms of loss (i.e., Safety, Quality, Production, and Cost).
  • Champions Lean culture and rolls out Lean initiatives/tools for functional area.
  • Other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time-to-time.


What You Have (Basic Requirements):

  • Supply Chain Management:  Knowledge of functions, principles and techniques used in supply chain management; ability to develop and implement strategies, practices and tools for controlling the whole processes.
    • Recognizes software systems or components used to manage supply chain.
    • Participates in supply chain analysis and uses it to spot trends and improvement opportunities.
    • Discusses considerations for integrating partner and supplier transactions.
    • Summarizes supply chain considerations for different types of products.
    • Works with a specific part of supply chain management process.
  • Inventory Management:  Knowledge of processes and methods of inventory management; ability to effectively manage organization's materials, commodities, merchandises, or products.
    • Coordinates daily work of inventory management for different locations within a facility or a supply network.
    • Devises standard inventory management benchmarks to improve the processes.
    • Ensures that the inventory is at an appropriate level and meets both internal and external requirements.
    • Provides guidance on inventory management for a specific product group or location.
    • Applies systems and processes to identify and coordinate inventory requirements; resolves conflicts.
    • Reviews reports used for inventory management to find out related problems.
  • Logistics Management:  Knowledge of the processes, tools and operational considerations for effective and efficient movement of goods and materials; ability to understand, predict and control the movement of goods, materials and supplies.
    • Develops and analyzes logistics plans that affect production, distribution, and inventory.
    • Manages logistics processes through process improvement, prioritization, and project planning.
    • Implements and maintains monitoring systems to provide information on shipment status, shipped date, in transit location, estimated arrival date, and actual delivery date.
    • Works with historical, legislative and practical issues associated with domestic freight.
    • Participates in contract negotiations and interfaces with selected carriers necessary to maintain expected levels of service.
    • Consults on all major logistics processes, their interactions and operational requirements.
  • Project Management:  Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
    • Utilizes preferred tools, techniques and methods for estimating project cost and time.
    • Plans, estimates, staffs, organizes and monitors significant projects.
    • Identifies risks and vulnerabilities; creates contingency plans.
    • Conducts regular and ad-hoc project reviews with project team, sponsors, and clients.
    • Maintains open communication among project participants and interested parties.
    • Communicates reporting requirements; creates monitoring and control mechanisms.
  • Warehouse Management:  Knowledge of the policies, processes and systems of warehouse management; ability to effectively manage one or more warehouses or distribution centers.
    • Maintains warehouse equipment and facilities.
    • Performs basic warehousing activities such as receiving, putting away, picking, packing and shipping merchandise.
    • Analyzes and documents key performance indicators of warehouse management in own area.
    • Assists in implementing mechanization approaches and techniques in a distribution center.
    • Collects and translates the business requirements for specifications of warehouse management systems.
  • Distribution Center Management:  Knowledge of distribution processes, issues and considerations; ability to effectively manage the receipt, storage, and distribution of inventory to stores and/or customers.

What Will Set You Apart (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Administration or related field.
  • Previous experience in Inventory Management and Control, Purchasing, Parts Distribution and/or Supply Chain/Logistics.
  • APICS CPM or CSCP National Certification.
  • Lean and/or 6 Sigma Black Belt Certification/Experience.
  • Ability to develop creative/original solutions to complex problems.
  • Ability to establish and monitor policies and guidelines.
