PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Hatchery Attendant is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the hatchery, including egg handling, incubation, chick care, and facility maintenance. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to biosecurity protocols, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
- Makes hourly checks of all hatchers and setters, recording all problems found and making minor repairs when possible.
- Calls the Maintenance and/or Management Department when major repairs are required.
- Makes periodic checks inside the setters and hatchers for humidifier leaks, curtains closed and proper turning.
- Responds to alarms in hatchery -Turn failures, high temperature, Low temperature. Repairing issues or notifying management
- Makes a security check of all doors, locking all outside doors after the daytime employees have gone.
- Learns proper method of operating the auxiliary power unit and electrical panel change-over in time of power failure.
- Notifies Hatchery Manager/Egg Supervisor when a power failure occurs in the Hatchery.
- Refills and replaces wick reservoirs as required by supervisor’s instructions.
- Assists with the continuous fumigation schedule for the hatchers.
- Uses repetitive motion when traying eggs.
- Responsible for cleaning areas assigned by the Sanitation Supervisor.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- None. This is an individual contributor role with required competencies: Functional/Technical Skills, Action Oriented, Problem Solving, Learning on the Fly, and Interpersonal Savvy
EDUCATION and CERTIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
- Must have a current and valid driver’s license and meet MVR requirements.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- Ability to complete required logs and forms.
- Ability to communicate, both verbally and written, with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization, strong attention to detail, and the ability to resolve issues efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, irregular, and extended shift hours.
- Must be able to follow detailed processes.
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
- Follow departmental and company safety policies and programs
- Wear required protective equipment in all areas where mandatory (hard hat, hearing protection, eye protection, mask, safety vest).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Must be able to work nights and weekends, using rotating shifts.
- Able to work alone.
- Able to work in various temperatures.
- Able to work in wet and humid environments.
- Able to bend, stoop, reach, grasp, twist, and kneel.
- Able to lift 40 lbs. or more, utilizing proper lifting techniques.
- Able to work in noisy and dusty environments.
- Able to stand for long periods of time.
- Tolerate exposure to chemicals within OSHA limits.
- Able to wear all required PPE.
- Must be able to push/pull egg racks weighing up to 700 pounds.
