The Opportunity
We are looking for a driven, forward-thinking, and creative Direct Underwriting Relationship Manager for our National Personal Insurance (NPI) department. You will be reporting to an Underwriting AVP.
This position is responsible for managing the underwriting relationship for the direct-to-consumer property and auto insurance channel, developing and executing underwriting policies and practices. This position is the primary underwriting contact for direct-to-consumer partners, working closely with the automobile, property and specialty underwriting teams to ensure alignment within the market segments.
This position provides analysis and insight to business leaders within NPI as well as working closely with the internal and external direct-to-consumer partners, fostering a positive and dynamic work environment that values people and achieves outperforming results.
The position requires understanding of the direct-to-consumer personal insurance channel. The position is accountable for supporting product, underwriting and risk in the direct-to-consumer channel, within a collaborative environment identifying trends, discrepancies, and opportunities.

Develop and implement underwriting strategies whilst adhering to policies, controls, regulatory requirements and legislation.
Monitor performance of the segment and lead underwriting initiatives to optimize risk selection, underwriting practices and portfolio performance.
Identify Underwriting trends and develop action plans/solutions.
Partner with the digital team to enhance the customer experience through the digital journey. Lead underwriting initiatives for buy on line and other digital capabilities.
Monitor industry trends and best practices, providing feedback, analysis, recommendations and guidance to stakeholders.
Monitor underwriting guidelines, workflows, and quality assurance protocols.
Assist in the execution of key Personal Insurance initiatives in pursuit of profitable business growth.
Support Product/Rate Change Priorities.
Help to maximize efficiencies through simplifying business practices and processes.
Develop strong collaborative relationships with internal and external partners. Work cross-functionally with digital, partnership, pricing, claims, marketing, analytics and legal teams.
University degree and/or College Diploma
Advanced degree and/or professional qualification is an asset
Minimum 5 years in the home and auto direct-to-consumer channel, in underwriting, marketing, sales, product development or operations
Prior experience with project initiatives in a leading or supporting role
French speaking is an asset

What you’ll get:
The salary band for this position ranges from $75,000 to $100,000. Please note that individual salary is determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience, as well as internal equity.
