Job Description Summary:

This position is an intermediate level that works with multiple computer systems and/or performs specimen processing duties including accessioning, determining specimen viability, identifying and resolving labeling/identification discrepancies and contacting physicians regarding issues with patients/orders, patient registration, proper patient billing including the use of ICD-9 codes and pertinent knowledge of commercial and government payers. Position handles blood, tissue, fecal matter, sputum, urine, spinal fluid and other body fluids. Specimens may be contaminated with infectious diseases including HIV and other blood borne pathogens.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School or GED (Required)Experience in laboratory or hospital setting. superior customer services skills, medical terminology, basic anatomy, advanced computer skills, ICD-9 coding, specimen handling. May require knowledge of phlebotomy. Critical thinking skills. Independent and self-directing. 1 year + phlebotomy Experience . 1-2 years of practical Experience in a reference lab, hospital lab, or physician office.
