Grid and Power Quality Solutions Service offers services, parts, improvements and upgrades of the installed base, both Hitachi Energy and competitors’ installations. The product portfolio served includes HVDC, HVDC Light, SVC, STATCOM (SVC Light), Energy Storage, and Cables.
This position will serve as a Network Engineer for Grid Integration HVDC/GPQSS in North America fulfilling requirements for product management and providing a key interface for this area of expertise between customers, local project management, third-party contractors and international engineering teams.
Our chosen candidate will be a highly motivated, self-directed individual and will work directly with customers to identify and solve cyber security needs and concerns. In addition to the strong technical expertise generally tending towards infrastructure and/or systems. He/she will have demonstrated a solid customer focus.
Responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Work with Users of HVDC and FACTS systems in our customer organizations to develop and install a cyber-security solution that meets or exceeds existing standards and enables systems to operate at full potential by allowing remote connections
• Coordinate activities related to the use of IT and industrial control equipment during execution of security assessments and investigations
• Ensure that proper use, configuration and care is observed, and procedures are followed during security tests
• Schedule and coordinate security tests within internal factory to ensure required assets are available for the tests
• Develop and maintain information security procedures for IT equipment and tools used internally and in the field for the execution of security assessments installation of patches and collection of asset configuration
• Procure, install and configure various IT and industrial control equipment
• Conduct security assessments of customer systems, services, and programs
• Maintain deep understanding of information technology networking and infrastructure, particularly as they pertain to cyber security
• Communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, technical cyber security requirements and concerns, to customers, stakeholders within Grid Systems, as well as other Hitachi Energy personnel
Complexity of Tasks
Tasks for this role require a high level of complexity and commitment.
• Requires thorough knowledge of cyber security terminology and standards. Specific knowledge about SCADA, HVDC and FACTS products is a plus but not required
• Requires strong communication skills to work with customers in addressing their concerns and requirements as well as balancing the commercial requirements of Hitachi Energy
• The job involves domestic travel as this position works closely with customers at their site locations
• Champions the appropriate solution/approach working through the various stakeholders collaboratively to ensure achievement of final goals
Typical Qualifications
The following characteristics detail the basic minimum requirements for candidates.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor degree in Information Technology or Computer Science
• Minimum of five (5) years of Network Engineering experience
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working on projects that involve highly technical activities
• NERC CIP or alternate compliance experience is preferred
• Possess good troubleshooting skills and be able to isolate and fix problems quickly
• Understanding of technologies and concepts such as security hardening, change management, and baselining, in addition to VMWare, switching and routing, security zones, DNS, TCP/IP, network packet analyzers, syslog, and Active Directory
• Understanding of cyber security policies, including defense in depth strategies, roles and responsibilities, security management controls, incident response/recovery and contingency planning
• Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a CISSP Certification. Additionally, other security certifications (such as GCIP) or senior industry certifications (such as Cisco Professional or Microsoft Engineer) are preferred
