Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of?

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.

To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems.

Our work culture is intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines and expect the same from you, there’s no better place to be.

This is a 12-week internship during summer 2025.

Coinbase is looking for a highly motivated Fraud Risk Intern to support our Payments Risk Management team. You will play a critical role to help identify and prevent fraud on our critical payment rails. Working closely with risk professionals and product teams, your responsibilities will include ensuring that effective controls are in place while maintaining a strong user experience, monitoring and reporting risks, and contributing to thought leadership to prevent fraud. This role will be based in New York.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

  • Work with internal stakeholders in Product, Data Science, and Engineering to develop and drive forward custom risk management strategies
  • Write SQL and build dashboards to detect anomalous behavior, analyze risk trends, and support monitoring
  • Synthesize data learnings into compelling stories and communicate them to Payments Risk leadership
  • Partner with consumer product teams to improve the user journey without introducing incremental risk
  • Proactively identify rules and controls in place that are ineffective, or that have high false positives
  • Partner with Customer Experience and Risk Analytics team to implement learnings
  • Document and improve processes and procedures

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • Some proficiency (~1 years) SQL experience
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent analytical and investigative skills, and strong curiosity to uncover trends
  • Excellent time management and prioritization; enjoy operating in a dynamic and fast-paced environment

Nice to haves:

  • Currently pursuing a degree or certificate in a technology or finance related discipline.
  • Some proficiency (1+ years) in dashboarding tools (Tableau, Looker, etc.) preferred but not required
  • Basic knowledge of the crypto economy, or a desire to learn
