Job Description: 

As a Thermal Management Architect, you will play a pivotal role in shaping Intel's cutting-edge platforms by driving end-to-end thermal design and development. Your expertise will contribute significantly to ensuring optimal thermal performance and at both the platform and SOC level, from concept to production. Collaborating across multidisciplinary teams, you will use advanced tools, methodologies, and materials to design innovative thermal solutions that enable maximum platform performance and reliability. Your work directly impacts on Intel's ability to deliver high-quality products, ensuring customers benefit from superior user experiences and industry-leading technology.

The primary responsibilities for this role will include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and develop advanced thermal solutions, to meet product and platform cost and performance goals.
  • Conduct thermal analysis, modeling, prototyping, and testing throughout the product life cycle.
  • Apply expertise in conduction, convection (passive and active), radiation, heat sinks, heat pipes, and vapor chambers to characterize cooling solutions and validate model correlation.
  • Define product power and temperature limits based on system cooling capabilities, providing thermal parameters for high-volume manufacturing.
  • Tune thermal solutions by considering thermal interface materials, contact pressure, and firmware-based thermal management policies.
  • Perform thermal simulation and analysis, extending from silicon to packaging and platform, with a focus on materials selection, design layout, and transient behavior.
  • Deliver technical reviews to address and resolve thermal challenges.
  • Collaborate with design, reliability, electrical, mechanical, and power teams to understand platform requirements and constraints.
  • Conduct research, experiments, and testing to ensure continuous technical readiness in the thermal engineering field.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications are required to be initially considered for this position.

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field (such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Thermal Sciences) or equivalent work experience.
  • 6+ years of professional experience in thermal engineering with a bachelor’s degree, 4+ years with a master’s degree, or 2+ years with a PhD.
  • 2+ years of experience in thermal analysis tools and methods.
  • 2+ years of experience of thermal fundamentals, including conduction, convection, radiation, and cooling solution characterization.
  • 2+ years of experience with thermal simulation, prototype testing, and validation processes.
  • Intermediate to Advanced English proficiency (both verbal and written).
  • Must have unrestricted - permanent right to work in Costa Rica.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

  • Advanced understanding of related disciplines such as SOC design, computer architecture, and power delivery systems.
  • Experience working across organizational boundaries and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and ability to resolve complex challenges in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate technical ideas and solutions clearly in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Enthusiasm for driving innovation and continuous improvement in thermal engineering methods and practices.
