As the US Benefits Plan Manager, you will play a key role by providing strategic, plan design, and administrative support for US Health and Welfare benefit plan operations and financial management. You will be trusted to ensure financial stability and compliance of benefit plans by analyzing claims cost, assisting in developing and tracking the annual budget, and partnering with internal stakeholders to streamline current processes and procedures to ensure proper plan governance. Additionally, you will support the success of the Benefits Team by working collaboratively with internal stakeholders, external vendors, and other members of the benefits team to support the optimization of programs designed to deliver an employee experience which attracts, motivates, and retains top talent.

In this role, you will:

  • Contribute to the development and execution of benefits strategy through data-driven analysis, program design, and implementation.
  • Participate in benchmarking and external benefit surveys, including a review of the data submissions and developing relevant reports for review and decision making.
  • Conduct research and analysis of market trends, regulatory updates, and competitor offerings.
  • Stay current on policies, legislative changes, and legal requirements, such as ERISA, HIPAA, and the Affordable Care Act to assist with plan compliance efforts.
  • Participate in the analysis and recommendation process for benefit design changes (e.g. medical, dental, life insurance, 401(k) plan, etc.) to ensure effective and efficient benefit programs and benefits management.
  • Analyze healthcare claims cost and trend data to develop and/or review U.S. health and welfare employer and employee contribution rates.
  • Support the development of U.S. health & welfare internal reports including financial, utilization, and dashboards for leadership.
  • Maintain U.S. Health & Welfare Compliance
    • Coordinate SPD/Plan document updates
    • Statutory requirement (e.g. 5500, SARs, Audits, RxDC reporting, Gag clause attestation, etc.)
    • Review/Update plan information at benefit vendors
    • DCFSA NDT Testing – manage annual requirement.
    • Coordinate the execution of new vendor contracts.
    • Internal controls for retiree medical and active plan changes
    • Ensure policies are updated as needed.
  • Assist with updating plan communications.
  • Assist with employee meetings, the annual enrollment process, benefit fairs, etc.
  • Assist with ad hoc data requests and special projects.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO ALCON:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +13 yrs; Assoc.+9 yrs; M.S.+2 yrs; PhD+0 yrs)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
  • 5 Years of Proven Experience
  • Prior employee benefits experience
  • Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or Mathematics
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) required.
  • Group Benefits Associate (GBA) or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation
  • Any actuarial experience and/or education.
  • Experience related to health plan analysis or per capita rate development.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be flexible to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands and opportunities; ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple, detailed tasks.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive information and situations with professionalism, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical problem-solving skills.
