Title: Registered Nurse – Full Time
Department: West Texas Heart Surgery

We are seeking a full-time Registered Nurse with a desire to be part of our Cardiothoracic clinical team. The RN provides practical care to patients. The RN is expected to work in compliance and in accordance with clinical and nursing standards. In addition to the skills required of all Registered Nurses, special skills related to nursing in the clinic environment are required.

Availability Requirements:
• Ability to work 40 hours per week
• 8am-5pm Monday – Friday

Essential Functions
• Provides direct patient care including rooming patients, taking and recording histories and physical examinations and communicates with physicians regarding patient care and follow-up
• Assures that adequate patient records are maintained, completed, accurately documented, readily accessible, and systemically organized
• Assists providers with procedures including room sanitation and sterilization of instruments
• Assists with patient messages via phone call and patient portal
• Assists with prescription refills
• Obtains prior authorizations
• Performs services in accordance with company policy
• Participates in appropriate Quality Improvement for the clinic
• Adjusts work hours/schedules to meet the needs and demands of the clinic
• Aware of Emergency Disaster Plans and how to respond in the event of a disaster
• Works effectively with others, demonstrates teamwork and the ability to work under pressure
• Communicates effectively, both written and orally with patients, staff, and other entities
• Demonstrates working knowledge of currently healthcare practices
• Possesses skills and technical competence to execute work responsibilities
• Operates within the established scope of practice

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
• Knowledge of clinical nursing standards and practices
• Excellent patient care skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to build positive relationships within department and across UMCP departments
• Strong scheduling and coordinator skills

Minimum Qualifications
• Current unrestricted RN license
• Must be in good standing with the Texas Board of Nursing; or the ability to obtain or transfer license to Texas
• BSN degree
• Current CPR and Basic Life Support Certification

Preferred Qualifications
• Previous experience as an RN in a medical clinic setting
• Experience in cardiothoracic setting preferred

Environmental Conditions
Works in well-lighted, ventilated building. Hours may vary to accommodate needs in the department. Exposure to blood borne pathogens is of high risk.

Physical Requirements
Work is of medium demand. Standing and walking most of the time while on duty. Lifting and pushing patients, carts and wheelchairs. Adequate hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills required. Good tactile sensation necessary for checking patients. Talking and hearing is essential in instructing and supervising nursing personnel and receiving doctors’ orders and patient’s condition reports. Near visual acuity for accurate recording of patients’ charts.
