As a Sybase Database Administrator (DBA), you will play a crucial role in managing our database infrastructure, ensuring its reliability, performance, and security. Your responsibilities will involve working closely with various technology teams, vendors, and management to maintain and optimize our Sybase database systems. This position requires expertise in Sybase technologies, along with experience in database administration on both Linux and Windows platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

Installation, Configuration, and Maintenance:

Install, configure, and maintain Sybase database systems on Linux and Windows platforms.

Ensure proper setup and configuration of database instances to meet application requirements.

Performance Optimization:

Analyze and optimize database performance by tuning SQL queries, database parameters, and server configurations.

Implement best practices to enhance database performance and scalability.

High Availability and Disaster Recovery:

Implement and manage high availability solutions such as clustering and replication to ensure continuous access to data.

Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans and procedures to minimize downtime and data loss.

Backup and Recovery:

Design and implement backup and recovery strategies to protect data integrity and facilitate timely restoration in case of failures.

Regularly test backup and recovery procedures to ensure reliability.

Security Management:

Implement and enforce security policies and access controls to safeguard sensitive data.

Monitor database activity for security threats and take appropriate measures to mitigate risks.

Capacity Planning and Growth Management:

Monitor database usage and resource utilization to forecast capacity requirements and plan for future growth.

Recommend hardware and software upgrades as needed to maintain optimal performance.

Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:

Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.

Provide guidance and support to other team members and stakeholders through knowledge sharing and training sessions.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

8-12 years of experience as a Sybase Database Administrator in a production environment.

Strong expertise in Sybase ASE (Adaptive Server Enterprise) and/or Sybase IQ.

Strong expertise in Sybase RS (Sybase Replication Server ) and Expertise in HADR Cluster in AWS 

Proficiency in SQL scripting and query optimization.

Experience with database performance tuning, capacity planning, and disaster recovery.

Familiarity with database security principles and best practices.

Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Effective communication and collaboration abilities.

Sybase certification(s) preferred.
