The Advanced Manufacturing Engineering function is intended to provide support, guidance and approval of manufacturing methods that enable cost effective robust manufacturing solutions that enable OSHKOSH product and business vision.

The Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) Lead - Will be provide advanced technical leadership, industry knowledge and insights to represent Manufacturing Engineering through the life of vehcile design and development projects. The position will review and support ongoing product design activities:

  • During concept engineering phase to provide Adanaced Manuafcturing feasibility assessments and direction aproval.
  • As manufacturing partners are identified through the concept and production design phases the AME lead will act as the key interface to confirm and negotiate manufacturing feasibility sign-off with in house and external manufacturing partners.
  • Through production design activities through to launch the AME lead will also provide change management co-ordination with manufacturing partners, inlcuding represent Engineering in tooling and equipment change cost and timing reviews and negotiations of acceptable change cost.  

The position will include the direction of other AME staff either contract or OSHKOSH employees. The role requires close collaboration with product engineering, program management, purchasing, process engineering, quality across internal and external manufacturing suppliers, to realize manufacturing feasibility approval, delivery timing and ongoing change coordination and costs and timing control. 

This position will be responsible for creation and development of OSHKOSH unibody Advanced Manufacturing Engineering capability and successful demonstration of capabilities and fit would provide promotion opportunities in line with department and function growth needs.

YOUR IMPACT:  

  • Reporting to the Dir of Body & Closures Engineering you will lead OSHKOSH Advanced Manufacturing Engineering activities.
  • Coordinate and manage internal and external resources to accomplish program objectives.
  • Plan and Lead Advanced Manufacturing Engineering activities.
  • Development of the Manufacturing engineering function processes, working practices, methods tools, and techniques. Such as; Work instructions, process standards and manufacturing quality methods and documentation.
  • Lead design for manufacturing (DFM) activities.
  • Manufacturing requirements development. Define and cascade vehicle Manufacturing targets to system, subsystem, and component level specifications to aid product design, as required.
  • Develop feasible manufacturing solutions for new vehicle designs. Leading the evaluation of competing manufacturing solutions and process selection for new product designs.
  • Work with product engineers, purchasing, quality process engineering and product and manufacturing suppliers to efficiently develop manufacturing options, process selection and achieve formal feasibility approval.
  • Ensure designs and manufacturing solutions meet internal and external customer requirements, statutory requirements, and corporate objectives.
  • Overall Manufacturing readiness assessments and approvals.  
  • Be an advocate for Manufacturing Engineering through the design and development process.
  • Lead Manufacturing problem solving activities and ensure route cause understanding to develop effective countermeasures to close manufacturing performance target gaps.
  • Provide leadership to staff including resource planning, scheduling, and administration to ensure program success. 
  • Supports the management of project scope, cost, timeline, and risk management.
  • Support the identification and coordination of all project scope change requests for approval.
  • Support the budgeting process to include recommending tooling and equipment capital needs and improvements and preparing justification data as required.
  • Manage documentation for project planning, design briefs, requirements management, status reporting, project communication, quality assurance, research, and historical records.
  • Maintain and apply knowledge in latest advanced manufacturing technologies driven by new product development to integrate new technologies into OSHKOSH production environment. Other duties as assigned.
  • Regular attendance is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering
  • Ten (10) or more years of experience within an Automotive manufacturing engineering or related field.
  • Advanced knowledge of unibody manufacturing processes (Forming and Assembly technology), advantages, disadvantages and associated process capabilities and constraints.
  • Detail cost understanding of Automotive forming and assembly tooling (Both capital costs, variable costs, and associated volume affinities).
  • Detail design for Manufacture (DFM) experience.
  • Experience launching new product development projects through launch.
  • Understanding of CAD and Familiar with the use of appropriate manufacturing simulation tools, software, and modelling practices.
  • Experienced in the use engineering problem solving and quality tools such as, PFMEA, DVP, 8D, DoE, Fault trees, SPC, VSA, …  
  • Excellent understanding industry standards, benchmarks, quality and health and safety requirements.

STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Advanced degree
  • Experienced in CAD (Catia) and Manufacturing applications and simulation techniques.
  • Strong verbal presentation and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of specific process capabilities and dimensional management techniques.
