Role Definition:

Join Caterpillar and seize the opportunity to lead one of our esteemed product engineering teams as an Engineering Manager within the Building & Construction Products division in Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu. In this pivotal role, you will spreadhead the direction of technical initiatives crucial to New Product Introduction (NPI), encompassing product development and ongoing production enhancements. Your primary responsibilities will entail overseeing a team of accomplished engineers, ensuring seamless coordination, and driving excellence across all engineering endeavors. What You Will Do:

  • Lead and prioritize all engineering initiatives within the India team spanning across global and regional NPI activities, quality enhancements, assembly line issues, and commercial requests, while effectively allocating resources to drive success.
  • Foster collaboration with the product engineering and cross functional teams located at various global locations to ensure strategic alignment to drive consistency and efficiency
  • Guide and mentor team members with technical expertise to ensure the seamless delivery of NPI projects, meeting stringent functional and program requirements within stipulated timelines, budget, and quality standards.
  • Oversee and champion Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) projects and provide strategic direction to swiftly resolve challenges and enhance product performance.
  • Oversee the machine performance function such as Linkage design & analysis, Powertrain analysis, Spec generation and competitive evaluations for worldwide machine development
  • Oversee the product validation function to meet stringent test and endurance requirements to deliver quality products to our Caterpillar customers
  • Provide proactive supervision and guidance to a team of 6-10 engineers, offering support in daily tasks management, performance evaluations, and facilitating their professional growth and development.
  • Accountable for creating and maintaining Annual Business Plan (ABP)/ budget for the team
  • Actively support the recruitment, training, and development of interns and Engineering Rotation & Development Program (ERDP) candidates, fostering a nurturing environment for future talent within the organization.

What You Have (Basic Qualifications):

  • Education: Bachelor’s / master’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • Experience: 16+ years in relevant engineering function with 3 to 5 years of managing people

  • Demonstrated proficiency in effectively managing and leading engineering teams, offering direction, mentorship, and support to foster a high-performance work environment, drive professional growth and development, and oversee successful project execution, either through direct management or indirect leadership roles.
  • Proven ability to drive strategic initiatives and project execution, displaying adeptness in balancing competing priorities, optimizing resource allocation, and delivering results within challenging timelines while upholding the highest standards of quality and excellence.
  • Experience working across global teams to foster collaboration, skill development and alignment towards common objectives. Demonstrated ability to understand and respect cultural differences is crucial for effective global collaboration.
