JOB OVERVIEW:
The Sanitation Supervisor takes ownership for the safe implementation of the production site’s standardized sanitation processes, procedures, and programs including production line wet and dry cleaning, master site sanitation, and custodial duties and staff. This individual will be responsible for the safe execution of these responsibilities, complying with Van Drunen Farms quality program standards and expectations, driving continuous improvement of the site’s sanitation practices, and monitoring site chemical consumption and controlling costs. While the Sanitation Supervisor will report to the Site Director, they will take direction on network sanitation strategy from the Corporate Quality Sanitation Manager and will indirectly (dotted line) report to them. The Sanitation Supervisor also works closely with the site Production Manager, Quality Manager, Production Supervisors, Maintenance, and the broader team, as appropriate, to support safe and efficient production operations. This position requires a formal understanding of sanitation methodology, sanitation best practices, a passion and skill for training, problem-solving skills, leadership skills, and the ability to influence. The Sanitation Supervisor will be responsible for coordinating with the site’s quality manager on meeting the key sanitation effectiveness and environmental monitoring quality metrics participating in pre-operational inspections.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leads all equipment and environmental sanitation activities at the facilities, ensuring that all sanitation goals are met while supervising the site sanitation team, including custodial staff.
Assesses effectiveness of sanitation activities via post-cleaning inspections of equipment and coordinating re-cleans with sanitation team as required.
Ensures completion of all Master Cleaning scheduled sanitation / housekeeping items and works with Quality to identify improvements.
In partnership with site Quality, monitor and communicate swab results and investigate any Out-of-Specification (OOS) results by using formal problem-solving techniques. Develops corrective and preventative actions and completes required reporting.
Educates the site production teams on OOS corrective actions using one-point lessons, continuous education, and hands-on training.
Drive continuous improvement sanitation activities to maximize the production capacity of the facility and decrease down-time for cleaning.
Develop a monthly site sanitation report that shares key sanitation KPIs and continuous improvement goals with a focus on sanitation effectiveness and efficiencies.
Monitor cleaning chemical inventory and cleaning supply levels and collaborate with our chemical supplier(s) to maintain sanitation equipment and systems.
Manages sanitation personal protective equipment (PPE), hoses, tool inventory and maintains these storage areas.
Leads/Participates in site continuous improvement efforts and projects.
Regularly audits Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP’s) and reports findings to key stakeholders.
Primary owner for sanitation management of change actions and evaluation or establishing site SSOP’s.
Understand chemical titrations and troubleshoots issues with cleaning chemical concentrations.
Use the established escalation procedures to properly communicate site opportunities.
Ensure that all cleaning equipment and infrastructure are in good condition and report any maintenance issues.
Responsible for developing, designing, and conducting sanitary design inspections of new equipment.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the overall safety, coordination, development, and evaluation of the sanitation and custodial employees.
Communicates sanitation-related issues or delays to site leadership
Fulfills supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws including approving vacation time and filling out transaction forms.
Timekeeping, interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

JOB EXPERIENCE:
5+ years working in a food manufacturing/production setting with a preference to working directly in a sanitation leadership or function role.
3+ years of leadership, supervisory and/or managerial experience.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Knowledge of Food Microbiology
Sanitation Methodology and Theory
Hygienic Design / Sanitary Design
Computer skills including use of MS Office programs (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, etc.) and email.
Supervisory and Leadership skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively train, motivate, and communicate with staff.
Organizational skills and attention to detail.
Must be a problem-solver who uses good judgement and continuous improvement techniques.
Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) preferred.
EDUCATION:
Certification and formal training in food sanitation practices.
Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) Required

Additional requirements include:
Ability to sit and use a computer and standard office equipment for extended periods
Manual dexterity for operating a keyboard and handling paper documents
Sufficient near vision acuity to read screens, handwritten forms, and printed materials
Specific vision abilities including close range, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment
Adequate hearing and verbal communication skills for in-person and phone interactions
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position operates primarily operates in a production area with periodic work in an office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to:
Wet and/or humid conditions
Moving mechanical parts
Outdoor weather conditions
High, precarious places
Extreme cold or heat
Dust, loud noises, and other distracting environmental factors
Working with chemicals
The work environment may range from frozen to ambient temperatures depending on the area visited. Noise levels are typically moderate in the office but may be louder in production zones.
Additional conditions include:
Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as, closed-toe shoes, respirators, hearing protection, eye protection, and head protection when entering production areas

Expected Pay Range: $28.37 - $33.42 per hour
Bonus: This role may further qualify for supplemental compensation in the form of bonus and incentive programs, contingent upon achieving pre-established individual and company performance metrics.
