The Principal Tax Accountant is part of the Tax Reporting team located at Northrop Grumman's corporate office in Falls Church, Virginia. The Principal Tax Accountant will report to the Senior Manager of Federal Tax Reporting.

The Tax Accountant will be responsible for applying tax knowledge and experience to prepare/review calculations and tax returns, including obtaining and analyzing source data, understanding tax issues, recognizing, and communicating potential risks and communicating effectively with stakeholders.  

Roles and Responsibilities:
• Prepare and review federal income tax returns

• Calculate and review federal tax adjustments
• Gather, analyze, and reconcile data received
• Calculate/process federal income tax quarterly estimated and extension payments

• Resolve federal income tax notices

• Assist with federal income tax calculations/projections for cash tax forecast
• Federal tax research and documentation

• Support quarterly provisions and income tax audits

• Support state returns preparation

• Contribute to process improvements, workflow alignment, and streamlining

• Communicate effectively within department and company

• Use and maintain CorpTax Software

Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with at least 6 years of relevant tax work experience

• Experience in federal income tax compliance

• Proficient with Microsoft Excel


Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's degree in Tax

• CPA License
• Public Accounting Firm experience
• Experience with Corptax, Adobe Acrobat, SAP, and tax research software

• Team focused approach to work
• Ability to multitask, manage projects, and perform tax research
• Excellent oral and written communication skills

Salary Range: $88,700.00 - $133,100.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
