Job Description
As a Robotics Intern, you will work with researchers and engineers to develop, test, and evaluate robotic systems intended for operation outside of controlled laboratory settings.
Internship assignments typically last 12–14 weeks and are structured to provide hands-on experience with robotic platforms, software, and experimentation workflows. Interns will contribute to ongoing research and development projects while learning how robotic technologies are transitioned from concept to field-relevant demonstrations.
The program includes technical seminars, professional development opportunities, and chances to present project outcomes.
Roles and Responsibilities
Support the development and evaluation of robotic systems for operation in real-world or field-relevant environments
Contribute to integration of hardware, sensors, and software components on robotic platforms
Assist with testing and experimentation in simulation, laboratory, and/or outdoor environments
Work with team members to analyze experimental data and assess system performance
Document designs, experiments, and results
Communicate progress and findings to technical stakeholders
Required Qualifications
Currently pursuing a Master’s degree or higher in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
Strong interest in robotics systems that operate in real-world or outdoor environments
Experience through coursework, projects, or research in one or more of the following areas:
Robotics or autonomous systems
Mechatronics or robotic hardware
Controls, sensing, or perception
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team
Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required
Willingness to work on-site in Niskayuna, NY

Desired Characteristics
Pursuing a PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (not a necessity, if you are pursuing a Masters please apply)
Enthusiasm for hands-on work with robotic platforms and systems
Familiarity with programming languages used in robotics (e.g., Python, C++, or similar, ROS)
Experience working with sensors, embedded systems, or robotic hardware (academic or project-based experience is sufficient)
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Ability to clearly document and communicate technical work

The pay for this position ranges from $1,000-$2,000/week based on years of graduate field of study completed.
