The Strategy Team works directly with our CEO, CFO, business unit Presidents and other senior leaders on a range of projects to support the long-term operational and growth objectives of the company. The Legal Professionals business segment is responsible for serving all Legal customers of Thomson Reuters. The Vice President Strategy, Legal Professionals will lead our overall strategic initiative portfolio to identify and assess growth opportunities for the business segment, working closely with the President of the Legal Professionals segment and their respective leadership team.
This role reports directly to the Chief Strategy Officer and will have overall responsibility for identifying new market opportunities, defining market entry and market expansion strategies to capitalize on these growth opportunities, and creating/maintaining an acquisition pipeline to accelerate the above strategies.
The individual will bring thought leadership to the trends underway across the markets served by the Legal Professionals segment. This will be carried out through a mix of external inputs (research, customer feedback, etc.) and discussions with relevant internal experts.
About the Role
In this opportunity as Vice President Strategy, Legal Professionals, you will:
In any given week, leading 2-3 concurrent projects typically focused on new market opportunities, acquisition evaluation, and/or deep dives on new ways of serving Legal customers
Manage team members, project timelines, and take overall responsibility for the rigor and quality of strategic analysis
Collaborate with other Strategy leaders on opportunities that span across Thomson Reuters’ segments, and efficient use of resources across the team
Serve as a member of the Legal Professionals segment leadership team, providing strategic and trusted advice and though leadership
Engage externally with customers and/or industry advisors to maintain a pulse on industry trends, and ensure Thomson Reuters has visibility into actional inorganic opportunities
Prepare materials on strategies and acquisition opportunities for C-level and Board audiences
About You
You’re a fit for the role of Vice President Strategy, Legal Professionals if your background includes:
Undergraduate degree in relevant discipline required; masters or higher degree preferred
Minimum 8+ years of relevant experience, including working in strategy consulting or in-house strategy teams
Strategy experience in the markets served by the Legal Professionals segment or the broader SaaS or business information markets, is preferred
Ability to mentor, develop and lead a small team of strategy professionals
Experience leading fast-paced strategy projects, collaborating with and influencing a wide range of stakeholders
Executing on organic and inorganic growth opportunities, including M&A target screening and strategic due diligence
Strong narrative and visual storytelling ability
Synthesis and simplification of complex ideas
Ability to perform and direct quantitative analyses, including financial modeling and market sizing
Proven experience working in large, complex, global organization with a successful track record of collaboratively working with colleagues across regions, markets, and cultures
Proven ability to build relationships and influence all levels within an organization
Demonstrated strength in building relationships and effectively managing stakeholders
Strong problem solving, decision-making, project management and organization skills
