Job Description
The Opportunity
We are seeking a talented M&E/ITS Tunnel Engineer to take ownership of the reliability, availability, maintainability and safety (RAMS) of tunnel mechanical, electrical, control and intelligent transport systems.
This hands-on technical role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys problem-solving in live operational environments, working with complex systems, and ensuring critical public infrastructure performs at its best.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver inspection, testing, preventative and corrective maintenance for tunnel M&E and ITS systems.
Support commissioning, factory/site acceptance testing and configuration management for upgrades and system changes.
Provide technical input and undertake design reviews during the Design & Construct (D&C) phase to ensure M&E and ITS designs meet operational, safety, maintainability and lifecycle requirements.
Maintain accurate asset records, test evidence, and configuration baselines within digital asset systems.
Act as the technical lead during incidents, providing rapid diagnostics and recovery support.
Ensure compliance with statutory, safety and technical standards including S8, SCADA/PLC protocols and BWoF requirements.
Apply RAMS principles, FMECA/HAZOP analysis and risk-based decision-making to improve asset performance.
Coordinate with ATOC, specialist contractors, OEMs and emergency services.
Contribute to digital engineering, BIM models and asset information datasets.
Required Skills and Competencies
You are an experienced engineer with strong technical capability and a passion for complex operational systems.
A background in electrical, mechanical, controls or mechatronics engineering.
Hands-on experience with SCADA/PLC systems, safety-critical equipment, power distribution and tunnel or transport environments.
Strong diagnostic, problem-solving and incident management skills.
High attention to detail, excellent technical writing ability and a commitment to safety.
Confidence working in fast-paced operational environments and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
