The mission of The New York Times is to seek the truth and help people understand the world. That means independent journalism is at the heart of all we do as a company. It’s why we have a world-renowned newsroom that sends journalists to report on the ground from nearly 160 countries. It’s why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world-class digital and app destination. And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.
About the Role, Mission or Department Overview
The New York Times is looking for a senior front end developer to join the Messaging UI team within the Messaging Platforms group. As part of the Messaging Platforms group, your work will directly help grow customer acquisition, engagement, and reader loyalty. Responsibilities:
Help lead in the effort to modernize and expand our existing front-end tools to support messaging-related workflows for internal newsroom users.
Provide front-end expertise, coaching and support to a growing team
Develop in an environment that uses React and Redux for much of our front-end development and Go for the backend.
Contribute to the full development lifecycle of our products, performing activities related to design, testing, deployment, and on-going support of our systems and capabilities.
Maintain code quality through static analysis, unit and system tests.
Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
This is a hybrid role based in our New York City headquarters and reports to the Engineering Manager over our Messaging Tools team.

Expertise with one or more front-end frameworks (React preferred), and with general patterns and practices related to working with these technologies (Redux, CSS modules, etc)
Experience with JS build tooling such as yarn, pnpm, turborepo, lerna, nx, webpack, or babel
