The primary responsibility of the clinical/physician extender athletic trainer is to provide day-to-day coverage in the Orthopedic Physician clinic.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: 

Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as an Athletic Trainer or eligible National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Board of Certification Current CPR Certification 

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: 
licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as an Athletic Trainer.
National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) Board of Certification (BOC).
Current CPR certification. 

Experience REQUIRED: N/A

Experience PREFERRED: 

Two (2) years previous athletic training experience 
One (1) year residency in ATC Physician Extender Program Orthopedic Technologist Certification

Education/training REQUIRED:   
Bachelor’s Degree in a specialized curriculum accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education 

Education/training PREFERRED:

Master’s Degree in a specialized curriculum accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education. 

Independent action(s) required: 
Work under the direction of supervising Physician in fast paced orthopedic clinic. Ability to multitask and work independently on tasks

Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): N/A 

Additional position requirements:

This job safely administers the prescribed medications of topical corticosteroids, topical lidocaine, or other Schedule VI topical drugs; oxygen for use in emergency situations; epinephrine for use in emergency cases of anaphylactic shock; and naloxone or other opioid antagonist for overdose reversal.
