POSITION SUMMARY: The Algorithm Architect is a critical member of the Algorithm Delivery Team who identifies project and product requirements and connects them to existing and future capabilities of the algorithms suite within FORTNA’s Warehouse Execution System (WES) and Warehouse Controls System (WCS). This is a mid-level position requiring experience in distribution center operations and software development.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Assesses the operational requirements of distribution center design solutions to identify and define algorithm requirements. This vital function requires a thorough knowledge of distribution center operations and the ability to understand how algorithms can produce desired operational outcomes.
  • Turns high-level algorithm descriptions into detailed requirements suitable for the algorithm design team to write user stories. The Architect may also be called upon to help write user stories for complex requirements.
  • Identifies and documents cross-functional requirements for teams outside Solutions R&D, including software, controls, engineering, and project management.
  • Works with peers in software, controls, and solution design to achieve alignment and coordination for project success at the design stage.
  • Assists department leadership with technology roadmap development by representing the customer perspective.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Computer or Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years’ industry experience in distribution center operations, gained either through consulting or direct operational experience. This qualification is required: prospective applicants not having exposure to distribution center operations need not apply.
  • Ability to understand complex algorithms at a deep level and envision their application in real-world operations. Conversely, the candidate must have an ability to understand real-world operations and envision potential applications of complex algorithms.
  • Experience applying systems engineering concepts such as requirements specification and verification and validation in real product development environments.
  • Knowledge of software development and deployment. Must be able to interface between research scientists in Algorithm Design and solution architects and product managers in Software.
  • Proficiency in Python programming. Although this is not a programming position, the successful candidate will have a strong background in Python and be able to write good code.
  • Excellent skills in written and oral communication, collaboration, and problem-solving. Must be able to see beyond traditional boundaries between disciplines to design customer-focused solutions.
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 20 percent, domestically and internationally.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience in algorithm development or software product management.
