Job Description Summary:

The University of Kansas Medical Center’s Department of Biostatistics & Data Science invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. This 12-month, full-time faculty position is designed for an early-career researcher to conduct innovative, independent research in biostatistics, teach and mentor students, and contribute to the service mission of the Department, School of Medicine, and University.
The Department of Biostatistics & Data Science comprises 25 faculty members, 3 teaching associates, and 31 staff with expertise in biostatistics, bioinformatics, information systems, and administration. The Department is a hub of interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation, serving over 200 graduate students across 5 graduate programs, including the MS and PhD in Biostatistics, MS in Health Data Science, MS in Applied Statistics, Analytics, and Data Science, and the PhD in Clinical and Translational Science. Expertise within the department includes linear, nonlinear, and longitudinal modeling, clinical trial and experimental design, survival analysis, categorical data analysis, statistical omics, data integration, research information technology, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and Bayesian methodology. The Department currently provides core support to the following NIH-funded centers: The University of Kansas Cancer Center, Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, Frontiers Clinical and Translational Science Institute, Kansas IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence, and Kansas Institute for Precision Medicine COBRE. Job Description:

Job Duties Outlined:

  • Teach data science and/or biostatistics courses for graduate students in biostatistics, applied statistics, analytics, data science, and other disciplines. 

  • Collaborate with researchers across the medical center and its affiliates to support cutting edge biomedical research that maintains the highest standards of scientific rigor.  

  • Lead research that involves both the development and application of novel biostatistics methodologies with biomedical applications. 

  • Contribute to grant writing and scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Required Qualifications

Education: PhD in Biostatistics or Statistics. 

Work Experience: Teaching experience and evidence of research productivity as outlined on application material.  

Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience:

  • In-person and online teaching experience in biostatistics, statistics, or data science.

  • Collaborative experience with basic scientists, clinicians, and population health researchers.

Skills:

  • Demonstrated potential for interdisciplinary collaborations to secure external funding.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams
