Job Description Summary:

This candidate will work as part of the Central Budget Office team on financial planning, advanced modeling and reporting, budget management, decision support, optimization of processes, supporting achievement of the University’s strategic mission, and communicating findings to University personnel and leadership, with a focus on education and research. This candidate will be responsible for identifying, developing and implementing budgeting best practices and strategic planning using analytical skills

Job Description:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and present key financial analysis and reports to internal stakeholders, external stakeholders, and leadership in order to understand the economics of current and future operations and assess future planning decisions

  • Serve as a trusted business partner and advisor, provide monthly and ad hoc analysis, training and communication to departments and leadership

  • Ensure information is effectively presented to leadership to support key financial planning and decision making.

  • Respond to requests from KUMC leadership (Executive Vice Chancellor, CFO, Deans, and others) to better understand the financial position, structure, drivers, and opportunities across all various missions and organizations of KUMC.

  • Champion the annual and 5-year centralized financial projections, allocations, and optimization of funds, research and analysis for financial requests.

  • Make recommendations and contribute to budget and planning system improvements, maintenance, and reporting.

  • Identify opportunities to streamline the planning and forecasting processes throughout the entire institution, reduce costs, eliminate inefficiencies, and improve the effectiveness of the budget system, Adaptive.

  • Participate in creating, documenting, and training of business processes, systems, and workflow of data.

  • Lead and partner with others to identify and prioritize areas and projects for which the University would benefit from detailed financial planning and analysis efforts.

  • Develop financial models to monitor and access the status of current budget and operating processes and financially prepare for future initiatives.

  • Work with the Central Budget Office and University leadership to deliver central reporting to the federal government, Kansas Board of Regents, and other external agencies. Responsible for monitoring legislative activity and reporting activity and compliance to the rest of the Central Budget Office Team.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid remote position with mandatory in office days in the Kansas City office.

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree, Accounting, Finance, Business, Mathematics, Economics or related degree.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant work, including budgeting, financial analysis and project planning

  • Three (3) years mentoring or supervisory experience.

  • Project management experience.

  • Proficient use of database systems with ability to interface complex financial accounting systems

  • Experience with data acquisition, modeling, and database management (e.g. SQL)

  • Self-motivated with strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Master’s degree

Certifications/Licenses:

  • CPA, CMA, CFA

Work Experience:

  • Minimum eight (8) years of relevant work experience

  • Programing or design and use of financial, planning and/or ERP systems

  • Experience using Workday

  • Workday Adaptive Budgeting

  • State legislative matters

  • Experience working in large, complex organizational setting and structure with various industries

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
