Our Community and Indigenous Engagement team is seeking an accomplished and passionate Strategist- Indigenous Partnerships, Policy and Strategic Initiatives for Canada who will be accountable for supporting the execution of Indigenous strategic partnerships and reconciliation initiatives that will positively impact the ability of Enbridge to build mutually beneficial relationships and partnerships.

What You Will Do:

  • Support Indigenous equity partnerships including collaborating with engagement teams in developing financial partnerships with Indigenous Nations.

  • Responsible for supporting the development and execution of the Enbridge's Indigenous Reconciliation Action Plan (IRAP), including but not limited to:

    • Coordinating the work of the IRAP Working Groups who ensure that Enbridge executes and reports on our progress to our commitments and the corresponding targets.

    • Working with the internal IRAP Working Group and external consultants, guide the process to review and refresh the IRAP in the final year of the IRAP committed term.

  • Working with the external facilitator, support the work of the IRAP Indigenous Advisory Group (IAG) made up of external Indigenous leaders.  This includes developing strategies and workplans, meeting schedules and minutes, logistics and acting as a key contact for IAG members and contribute to the quarterly IAG meetings.

  • Support the development and alignment of Indigenous Strategy and Policy matters and Standards, including:

    • Leading the maintenance of the Indigenous Peoples Policy (IPP)

    • Leading the Lifecycle Guidelines Framework, which is Enbridge’s standards of practice for engagement with Indigenous Nations and partners.

  • May serve as part of the crisis communications & response team (CCRT) during operational incidents or emergencies and non-operational events such as a reputational crisis.

Who You Are:

You have the following education and experience:

  • University degree from a related post-secondary program and/or combination of education and work experience.

  • Preference may be given to a candidate who identifies as Indigenous (First Nations, Metis, Inuit).

  • Minimum 7 or more years of directly related work experience in Indigenous or partner engagement, or with Indigenous governments or organizations.  Experience in the resources sector, particularly in the energy industry / energy transportation infrastructure sector, is an asset.

  • Familiarity with Indigenous history, culture and current challenges and opportunities related to engagement and partnerships between Industry and Indigenous Nations, applicable government and regulatory requirements, as well as present day issues and community dynamics.

  • Experience in and understanding of a large, public energy company with operations in multiple regions.

  • Ability to interact effectively and establish credibility and build trust with rights holders and colleagues alike.

  • Solid written and verbal communication, presentation and organizational abilities.

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong strategic and analytical skills to quickly analyze complex situations, determine key issues and messages, and implement the strategies and programs.

  • Persistence, patience, and the ability to work independently with minimal direction.

Working Conditions

This position typically operates in an office work environment with occasional travel (~20%) within Canada.
