The Admission Counselor position reports to the Associate Director of Undergraduate Admission and will assist with recruiting, selecting, and enrolling a dynamic class of first-year students to the college. In addition, this position will attend admission events and will travel domestically for a period of up to eight weeks to visit high schools, conduct information sessions, attend college fairs, and build relationships with counselors. This is an important role that requires the ability to engage well with prospective students and to detail the positive attributes of the college and has a direct bearing on the college’s revenue figures.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Recruit students for the college, assisting with meeting the college’s admissions and revenue targets
  • Communicate with and advise prospective students as necessary
  • Provide counseling to parents, applicants, and guidance counselors regarding the college’s admission policies and procedures
  • Maintain communication with prospective students and family members, answering questions and scheduling meetings as required to provide them with the information they require about campus life, programming, tuition, and courses of study
  • Review and evaluate undergraduate admissions applications based on the college’s recruiting goals and standards, accepting, deferring, waitlisting, or rejecting students as appropriate
  • Plan and execute spring and fall recruitment schedules, events, and travel, visiting high schools, attending college fairs, and hosting one-on-one meetings in an assigned geographic area
  • Meet with walk-in visitors, handle phone calls, and give presentations to guests who are taking a tour of the college
  • Participate in projects as required
  • Attend and assist at events and at the Visitor Center as required
  • Serve as liaison to on-campus departments and off-campus organizations to help increase the number and quality of applications
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS – Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform job.

  • Professional degree required
  • 1-3 years of previous experience in a higher education admissions office, either as a student or in a professional capacity required
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • 1 year of previous professional experience in college admissions preferred
  • Ability to speak Spanish preferred

  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required
  • Superior interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to present information in public as well as in one-on-one situations
  • Good computer skills and the ability to learn new computer software easily
  • Self-starter with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to engage with prospective students and parents in a patient and positive manner
  • Sound independent judgment
  • Ability to plan and coordinate schedules and events
  • Availability to travel domestically extensively required
  • Ability to attend admissions events on evenings and weekends required
  • Knowledge of Emerson College programs and services preferred

  • This position is generally sedentary in nature, movement throughout the area is required from time to time.
  • Ability to have continuous oral and written communication with prospective students, co-workers and supervisors is essential.
  • Repetitive movements, occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds, reaching, lifting, stooping and the ability to read a computer screen, detect color-coding and read fine print will be expected.

WORK ENVIRONMENT – Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  • General office conditions. Exposed to moderate noise levels
  • Involves significant domestic travel

IN-OFFICE EXPECTATIONS
This position requires an in-person presence on the Boston Campus during the work week.

Compensation: $47,550.00 - $56,950.00 annually, commensurate with experience.
