OCS (Optical Circuit Switch) Product Engineer

  • At a high level, stands up for manufacturability and cost effectiveness
  • Is heavily involved early in the program to highlight issues and so that they understand the product design at a fairly deep level so that they can help troubleshoot, verify the process flow and train the operations team
  • Is heavily involved in Alpha builds. Responsible for successful transfer of product from Ottawa to production site.
  • Does not need to be an expert in all areas of the product, but they need to know who the experts are and get help when needed
  • Responsible for product overall manufacturability.  Includes:
    • Early feedback on design for manufacturability and cost
    • Early SDR and 3P involvement, possible team lead
    • Ottawa Alpha build coordination - need to be immersed in the how and why, others can help manage details of the build.  Need to define the build volume progression.
    • Yield (first and last pass)
    • PFMEA
    • Process flow
    • Control plan
    • BOM
    • Initial capital model.
    • Initial cost model, and continuous monitoring of engineering inputs to the model (capital, yields, scrap).
    • Continuous improvement plan
    • Ensuring that all inputs are ready for the factory transfer
      • Production space requirements (collect from process primes and DA)
      • Share lead of line layout (to ensure process needs are met) with Operations
      • Collect station BOMS
      • Debug tree
      • SPC parameter collection and implementation
      • MES set up
      • DFX strategy
