Job Summary

The Advisor at the Delaware Campus guides students in matters related to academic planning, financial aid advising, career planning, degree completion, academic student support, and engagement with College experience. The Advisor provides consultation, coaching, interventions, and works collaboratively with faculty, staff, across departments, other advising divisions, Student Central, Admissions, and the community to promote student success, completion, and satisfaction, as well as coordinating additional services students may need. In addition, the Advisor is knowledgeable and works with internal and external partners to assist student to transfer to other institutions. This position interprets information, guidelines, and procedures as established by policy and regulations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Student Academic Advising & Student Success

  • Provides Academic and Financial Aid advising, Career Planning, and coaching. Explains the applicable processes and procedures to students. Partners with faculty, student engagement team, and academic support services to ensure students have the support and resources needed throughout their College experience. Assists special student populations appropriately. Advises students in person, via phone, e-mail, remote, video, or other delivery formats, as needed. Assists students experiencing academic difficulties to develop a plan of action to promote academic success.
  • Facilitates and assists with campus events, orientations, workshops, transfer fairs, etc. Delivers case management within advising, and consistent implementation and execution of high-impact community college advisingpractices. Partners with financial aid office to assist students regarding financial access, wellness, literacy, and economic mobility, and connect students to programs to increase awareness. Participates in the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA). Reviews data and reports to monitor, assess, and determine areas of opportunity to engage and better serve students.

Customer Service

  • Provides direct support services, in person, over the phone, and electronically. Assists business partners from other College departments with questions, forms, and tasks to address student needs. Responds to email inquiries and/or follows up on additional items needed. Serves as a member of the advising team with the Regional Enterprise. Attends meetings as needed and required, traveling to other CSCC locations and within the community based on business need.
  • Participates in events and activities designed to increase enrollment, retention, and completion. Encourages students to attend orientation, Delaware Day, and other activities that support student success. Maintains regular communication and working relationships with fellow advisors and other areas of the College, staying informed of activities, and working collaboratively to achieve institutional priorities. Works with web resources, social media, and print materials to support academic and student support initiatives.

Administrative

  • Maintains confidentiality of student files and other sensitive subject matter. Completes and maintains required documentation. Keeps accurate records. Reviews, verifies, and, where applicable, completes other processes for students. Collects and maintains student contact information for reporting purposes.

  • Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of the community.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • One (1) year of experience in advising.
  • State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
  • *An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework, and experience may qualify a candidate.
