We are seeking a Director of Engineering who will be accountable for all aspects of the platform developed in partnership with product counterparts, architects, and other functions across the organization. The role also entails leading and growing a talented engineering team, nurturing best engineering practices, collaborating closely across various cross-functional teams.

Your day to day:

  • Designing, implementing, and delivering state-of -the-art solutions for Foundational Commons that are in accordance with customer expectations, business aspirations, and platform principles. 
  • Collaborate between various internal teams in our global product and engineering organizations, UX designers, content designers, platform and infrastructure teams, database teams, release engineering, site reliability engineering, analytics, etc., and external stakeholders such as technology vendor partners, technology service providers, and staffing vendor partners. 
  • Implement and enforce best practices of software engineering that bring agility, quality, performance, scale, security, and efficiency for all products being delivered. Constantly adapt and experiment with new best practices followed within the industry. 
  • Understand and enrich technical architecture, design, and implementation patterns by working within PayPal’s cross-functional technology teams. 
  • Focus on innovation as a key cultural element and optimize for efficiencies by bringing unique solutions to the table and questioning the status quo and refactoring the existing codebase. 
  • Manage teams that are accountable for all facets of software development like architecture, design, implementation, quality engineering, release and monitoring. 
  • Embrace a data and metrics-driven culture to help make informed decisions. 

What do you need to bring:

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science or Master’s in Computer Science degree or related field from an accredited college or university with around 15 years in the software technology field and at least 5 years leading teams of over 20 engineers Strong object-oriented programming skills and expertise. 
  • Deep understanding of various web-scale design paradigms. 
  • Good understanding of mobile technologies and frameworks. 
  • Experience with test frameworks and Functional Test frameworks.  
  • Exposure to one or more server-side scripting technologies is a plus. 
  • Highly Competent in Enterprise Architecture/ Software design & Implementation 
  • Good knowledge of REST API’s, Web Services. 
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS / GCP is desired. 
  • Very strong foundational knowledge in Data Structures, Algorithms, SQL/NoSQL, Operating Systems, and Software Engineering
