The Job

The HPC Ops Director leads a world-class team of data center managers, technicians, and maintenance personnel to consistently deliver client SLA commitments. The director creates and maintains a culture of professionalism and operational excellence and a place where people love to work and build careers. The HPC Ops Director will have a strong working knowledge of mission-critical facilities subsystems supporting the data centers and hosted customer assets. In addition, the role will be responsible for tracking operational budgets and the financial performance of the assigned region.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the HPC Operations Teams to maintain 24x7 critical infrastructure service delivery and meet/exceed SLAs for uptime and performance.
  • Create a high-performance and professional work environment focused on mentorship and training of data center managers and supervisors.
  • Provide insight to the Senior Director of HPC Operations on the ability to conceive, architect, propose, lead, and drive the deployment and implementation of infrastructure solutions.
  • Deep dive with the data center teams on operational processes, SLA performance, and continuous improvement.
  • Through regular embedded visits, create reports detailing where each data center excels and where they can improve.
  • Maintain a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art mission-critical data center infrastructure equipment and systems and stay abreast of industry trends.
  • Ensure site-level leaders can prioritize projects and other operational objectives appropriately.
  • Monitor various key performance indicators, recognize areas of underperformance, analyze root causes, and develop an improvement plan.
  • Provide a clear vision of work required within the domain and the ability to quickly and concisely detail vision and requirements.
  • Provide support for site-level leadership during an absence.
  • Foster open, respectful, and professional communication directly within the team, with co-workers/ teammates, and leaders across the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, business operations, or a related field is required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive IT management experience in a highly competitive, large corporate organization managing $1M+ budgets with solid knowledge of systems operations and 24/7 data center support.
  • Strong knowledge of data center infrastructure elements, including electrical and mechanical subsystems, security, and life/safety systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with disaster recovery concepts, strategies, and implementation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to present complex topics to a non-technical audience.
  • Strong execution skills. Drives flawless execution of projects as well as contributing to continuous improvements of critical projects and programs.
  • To be considered for this role, you must reside in one of the following states: TX, ND, SD, OK, MN, AR, KY, TN, GA, FL, SC, and NC.

 

Travel

Frequent travel between data centers is required.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office, warehouse, and data center environments. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptops, smartphones, ladders, forklifts, and scissor lifts.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, and lift up to 20 pounds.  

Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, onsite position. General hours and days of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. some nights and weekends may be required.
