About CTCT

CTCT is a world-leading joint venture between Trimble and Caterpillar. We create cutting-edge grade control and automation products that revolutionize the paving, construction, landfill, and mining industries.

From compact landscaping equipment to massive 800-tonne mining excavators, our technology makes operators safer and more productive. We specialize in high-accuracy positioning and automation by leveraging advanced technologies like IMU, GNSS, Laser, Optical, and Sonic sensors. Joining CTCT means working at the intersection of heavy machinery and real-time software innovation with the backing of two industry giants.

Role Purpose

As a Software Manager, you will lead, inspire, and support a product-focused engineering team building solutions used daily by technicians and operators of CAT earthmoving and paving machines.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you will balance writing code and shaping technical architecture with coaching talent and ensuring high-quality delivery across embedded Linux, Android, and web components.

Key Responsibilities

🛠️ Hands-On Engineering & Technical Leadership

  • Active Contributor: Actively write code, contribute to feature development, perform hands-on debugging, and drive defect resolution.

  • Architecture & Design: Own and contribute to software architecture and detailed design while leading rigorous design and code reviews.

  • Mentorship: Coach and elevate engineers in modern C++, embedded systems design, multi-threading, profiling, and debugging.

👥 People Leadership & Team Management

  • Team Leadership: Directly manage a focused team of 4–6 software engineers, taking responsibility for goal setting, mentoring, and performance management.

  • Execution & Delivery: Remove technical and operational roadblocks, clarify priorities, and allocate work effectively to meet delivery milestones.

  • Culture Builder: Foster a continuous learning environment that values clean code, knowledge sharing, and technical excellence.

⚙️ Delivery, Process & Agile Engineering

  • SDF Alignment: Ensure strict adherence to the CTCT Software Development Framework (SDF).

  • Agile Rigor: Guide the team through backlog grooming, sprint planning, system integration, and defect triage.

  • DevOps Excellence: Champion clean code standards, thorough documentation, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and build health.

🌐 Cross-Functional & Global Collaboration

  • Multidisciplinary Alignment: Partner closely with systems, controls, sensor, and hardware engineering teams to integrate complex features.

  • Global Impact: Collaborate with geographically dispersed CTCT engineering sites to align with global leadership and drive continuous process improvements.

What You Bring to the Team

Required Technical Qualifications

  • 8–12+ years of total software development experience, including 2+ years in formal technical leadership or engineering management roles.

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or a related engineering field.

  • Systems Expertise: Deep understanding of embedded systems, concurrency, multi-threading, and performance optimization.

  • Sensors & Positioning: Familiarity with high-accuracy positioning and sensor technologies (GNSS, IMU, Laser, Optical, Sonic).

  • Modern Tooling: High proficiency with Git, CI/CD integration pipelines, automated testing, and structured code review workflows.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Web technology exposure with Angular and TypeScript.

  • System-level understanding of Caterpillar heavy equipment, hydraulics, or machine control systems.

  • Background in robotics, machine control, or autonomous guidance systems.

  • Familiarity with industrial safety standards and field deployment for machine-impacting software.

Core Competencies

  • Hands-On Builder Mindset: A strong sense of technical ownership and a passion for getting into the code.

  • People Developer: Proven ability to motivate, coach, and grow high-performing engineering talent.

  • Strategic Communication: Clear, effective communicator capable of managing cross-functional and global stakeholders.
