As we continue to grow and evolve, we are seeking a passionate and skilled Senior Commodity Merchant to join our Cottonseed team at our Overland Park, KS Trading Office.

As a Commodity Merchant, you will play a pivotal role in the success of our agricultural Capstone Commodities trading operations by strategically sourcing, negotiating, and executing commodity transactions. The ideal candidate possesses an understanding of agricultural markets, trends, and risk management, coupled with a proven track record in building and maintaining strong relationships with farmers, suppliers, and other key stakeholders. In this role, you will leverage your expertise to identify market opportunities, optimize trading strategies, and contribute to the overall growth and profitability of our agricultural portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • • Coordinate and manage the buying and selling activities for assigned commodities. Determine supply and demand, survey market conditions, and analyze other economic forces to establish position in the market.
  • • Initiate, negotiate, and agree on terms of commodity purchase/sale contracts, such as price, quality, quantity, transportation, timing, and payment.
  • Monitor freight spreads to determine where cheapest replacement for current book is and continually communicate that to PCM.
  • Exhibit excellent customer service through execution.
  • Maintain high level of communication with support team using defined processes to make sure book is settled as intended in he trade through the close of contract.
  • Develop customer relationships through regular communication that leads to understanding of the value we currently add to their business and how we can add more value in the future.
  • Develop methods to keep individual work organized so that its scalable for self and accounting processes.
  • Learn expenses of individual business and different trade opportunities in an effort to understand net impact and to help prioritize how to most efficiently spend time.

Minimum Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred
  • 3-5 years’ relevant experience preferred
