Job Description

The Release Engineer aids in the operations surrounding the release process of our applications as a member of the Application Release Engineering team.  This includes working cross teams to learn the various development teams and business analyst names, roles, responsibilities, and each team’s needs.  This role engages with internal end users to maintain and support testing environments.  The team member will also contribute to maintaining and improving the current processes in place for releases.

Responsibilities

  • Manage production branches of code and merges.  Serve as the gate keeper to ensure the appropriate fixes are in place for releases.  The includes coordinating with Dev teams to ensure the code base is correct and QA teams to ensure all merges are properly tested. 
  • Work with the Change Management team on the procedural task for releasing to Test and Production environments.  This includes interfacing with stakeholders and obtaining proper sign offs for each release to meet audit requirements. 
  • Perform application releases to Production environments when application updates are required.  After successful Production releases, sync our Disaster Recovery site as well as maintain the company’s escrow obligations.
  • Provide support for testing environments to ensure proper testing is complete prior to Production releases. 
  • Be able to troubleshoot release issues and escalate to proper colleagues when required.  This includes becoming familiar with the release deployment processes and being able to read logs in Jenkins & Elastics to diagnose failures and common application errors. 
  • Learn, adopt, and automate company's build and release goals, mechanical procedures, communication standards, auditable documentation/breadcrumb trail.

Pre-Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • 2-5 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Version control experience in SVN & GitHub, including branching philosophy
  • Experience with releasing software and troubleshooting release issues
  • Experience with 3 tier software architecture
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases
  • Experience with DevOps methodologies including Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployments frameworks like Jenkins pipelines and AWS CodeBuild/CodePipelines. 
  • Scripting abilities with Python, PowerShell, and Bash languages
  • Experience supporting and maintaining Legacy applications
  • Experience with containerization using Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
  • Experience with cloud environments (public AWS and private OpenStack/Scalr)
  • Familiarity with switching between Windows and Linux
  • Familiarity with network security
