The M70/M71 Acute Care Lymphoma and Myeloma Units care for adult patients undergoing targeted cancer and radiation therapies. Using a multidisciplinary care model, this team of caregivers focuses on providing the best possible treatment experience. As PCNA, you will collaborate with healthcare staff to provide direct patient attention, ensuring everyone feels comfortable and well-attended Not only does this position offer an excellent way to enhance your nursing skills but also make a lasting difference in the lives of patients and their families every day. 

 

A caregiver in this position works day/night/rotation, 7:00AM  7:30PM or 7:00PM—7:30AM.  

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN, such as taking vital signs and weight, assisting patients with personal care, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley Catheters. 

  • Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.  

  • Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.  

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School Diploma or GED 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon or within new hire period 

  • Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) considered 

  • Knowledge of basic medical procedures and equipment 

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) Certification  


Physical Requirements:

  • The position requires a considerate amount of physical work not to exceed 50 pounds.
  • Any workload exceeding 50 pounds will require assistance.
  • The individual will be required to pull up or reposition patients in bed, lift supplies, place equipment or supports, and push beds throughout the hospital.
  • The individual must be able to bend over to perform certain duties such as check chest tube drainage, check urine output, etc.
  • The individual must be able to quickly maneuver throughout halls, stairways and patient rooms in response to hospital emergencies.
  • Interpretation of environmental input requires visual and auditory skills. In the event there is a need to evacuate the building, heavy lifting will be required to carry patients to safety.
  • Mental Demands: Ability to work at a fast pace and to prioritize multiple assignments/projects and respond to numerous requests; ability to resolve conflicts among staff and to work collaboratively with department director, physicians and other members of the healthcare team; ability to ensure operational efficiency; ability to problem solve and make decisions; ability to exercise self control and tolerate stress when dealing with multiple requests and/or conflicting demands from multiple customers.
  • Special Demands: Essential Sensory requirement - ability to visually assess patients and implement plan of care. Essential Technical/Motor Skill - finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination are necessary when charting, using equipment, and providing direct patient care.

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
