ENGINEERING - GAMES

What We Do

Unreal projects have been leading the pack of real-time entertainment with our constantly growing team of engineering experts. We’re always improving on the tools and technology that empower content developers worldwide.

What You'll Do

Epic is building Verse, a new declarative language for the metaverse. The Verse project is both - a research project, we are developing new foundations for functional logic programming and verification; and - a delivery project, we have released a reference implementation, which will evolve over time to meet the project's needs. This role is at the research end of this spectrum, where we are working out the precise semantics of Verse, and how to verify it. We have a variety of tools that support the prototyping and design development of Verse, and we are looking for a research-oriented engineer or an engineering-oriented researcher to nurture, curate, develop, test, and support that infrastructure.

In this role, you will

  • Design, implement, and test a variety of research tools, including a reference implementation and a term-rewrite-system that implements Verse, verification engines, and test frameworks to exercise these tools
  • Co-author documents that specify Verse for different audiences, including research papers aimed at academics and design documents for Epic engineers
  • Partner with a globally distributed research team

What we're looking for

  • Excellent Haskell programming skills and knowledge of the Haskell ecosystem
  • Knowledge of programming language design and implementation techniques: semantics, confluence, abstract interpretation, formal verification and proof unification
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to contribute as a full member of a geographically distributed team

This role is open to multiple locations in North America and Europe (excluding CA, NY, & WA).
