About The Organization

Product Engineering is a unified team responsible for the engineering of Disney Entertainment & ESPN digital and streaming products and platforms. This includes product engineering, media engineering, quality assurance, engineering behind personalization, commerce, lifecycle, and identity.

Work within one of Disney’s service engineering teams, supporting a variety of backend API services that directly support the Disney+ platform as part of the Growth, Commerce and Identity group.  The Billing and Subscription teams are responsible for building and maintaining our Subscriptions, Entitlements, Orders, Invoices and Billing systems which must be scaled to handle high-traffic events like ESPN+ Pay Per Views while also processing the recurring billing cycles for millions of subscribers daily – all while managing the security and reliability of our homegrown systems.  As we build out our flexible architecture, the critical contributions of this team will enable our finance/marketing teams to fulfill their vision of growing our subscriber base internationally. Our billing solutions span retail, wholesale and third-party channels and you will collaborate closely with your peers to deliver a world-class solution that processes millions of transactions every day. Job Summary

Our teams build systems that power all the Commerce workflows within Disney Streaming. We implement reliable, high-request services that power user experiences across web, mobile, and living room devices. We are looking for a Senior manager who wants to build and operate these critical services that support all our users! You will have an opportunity to learn about the international landscape and challenges in the area of maintaining our Subscriptions, Entitlements, Orders, Invoices and Billing systems which must be scaled to handle high-traffic event

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

  • Work with a distributed team of engineers across multiple organizations building software collaboratively.

  • Identify patterns that can help the teams scale, create proposals, and drive adoption of those patterns

  • Challenge current architectural choices while collaborating to solve problems in innovative ways

  • Drive best engineering practices to write well-constructed and easy-to-maintain code, defensive and robust tests.

  • Lead through metrics - understand application performance and costs and push for better results.

  • Work with Product Management to help translate business requirements into Technical solutions - drive the delivery of key projects across the various cross functional teams

  • Lead architecture group to inspire change across the organization as well as partner organizations

  • Represent Disney streaming in various internal and external conferences, blogs, mentor Senior engineers.

Required Skills

  • Experience partnering with Product Organization to build and execute team roadmap

  • Demonstrated success working as a Senior Engineer/Architect of complex distributed tier 1 backend services in the critical path, prior to transitioning into a manager role.

  • Experience working with cloud based deployments.

  • Experience hiring top engineering talent and making tough decisions.

  • Strong partner and communicator with ability to articulate the team vision and technical concepts to cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Ability to take decisions in ambiguous situations and a fast paced environment with constantly changing business needs.

  • Excellent motivator driving influence and high throughput from the team.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in backend server-side development

  • Knowledge of at least one object-oriented language.

  • Experience working with cloud providers.

  • Familiarity with databases (SQL and no-SQL)

  • Experience investigating technical components and taking ownership of feature development.

  • Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Terraform, and infrastructure as code (IaC) best practices.

  • Familiarity with Data Engineering, Data Architecture & Infrastructure and Test Engineering

Required Education & Experience

  • 5+ years of technical management experience.

  • 10+ years technical experience building applications and services

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or a comparable field of study.
