Student Employee, Arts & Sciences Division Assistant

Job Description:

This position offers flexible work hours, on an as-needed basis, to provide a wide variety of tasks within the Arts & Sciences division.

POSITION TITLE:  Student Employee, Arts & Sciences Division Assistant

STATUS: Part-time

DEPARTMENT:  Dean of Arts & Sciences Office

DIVISION: Arts & Sciences

REPORTS TO:  Dean of Arts & Sciences Administrative Assistant II

CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt

MINIMIUM PAY RATE: $14.00

(Position is FWS Eligible)

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Update bulletin boards for Arts & Sciences departments.
2. Post class cancellation signs for day or evening classes and notify students via phone.
3. Contact students enrolled in cancelled sections and suggest other possible alternatives per the direction of department administrative assistant.
4. Assist at various division events (Math and English summits, Math Invitational Contest, preparing swag bags, folders, etc.)
5. Pass out flyers and promotional materials to students around campus.
6. Assist A & S faculty and staff during main street event to promote various division programs.
7. Serve as receptionist and answer phones for offices that may be short-handed or during department meetings when no one is available. 
8. Perform miscellaneous office and clerical related duties: filing, shredding, scanning.
9. Assist in special projects that come up throughout the year.   
10. Perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. GPA of 2.0 or above.
2. Enrolled in 6 credit hours toward your declared major at JJC. 
3. High School diploma or equivalent.
4. Excellent customer service skills. 
5. Attentiveness to detail, efficient organizational skills, initiative, and ability to work independently. 
6. Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with other members of the college and community. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
2. Willingness to work a flexible schedule. 
3. Demonstrated multicultural competence.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Normal office physical demands.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: This is a student employee position that works around your class schedule. May work up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. During summer and holiday breaks (Winter/Spring), may work up to 28 hours per week with supervisor approval.
