Job Description: MES & Smart Manufacturing Lead

Position Overview: Accenture's Industry X is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader with deep domain expertise in heavy industries. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in consulting, system integration, and consultative selling, combined with hands-on experience in manufacturing environments.

This role demands a professional who can drive strategic initiatives, deliver transformative solutions, foster robust client relationships, and build a high-performing consulting practice. The primary industry focus will be on mining, petrochemicals and utilities. The position is based in South Africa, and a proven track record in the operational technology industry is critical for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

Consulting and Advisory:

  • Provide expert advice and strategic guidance to clients in the mining, petrochemicals and utilities sectors, especially on MES implementations.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive consulting strategies to address client challenges specific to manufacturing operations.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of manufacturing processes and provide actionable recommendations to optimize client operations.

System Integration:

  • Lead and manage system integration projects, ensuring seamless implementation and integration of operational technologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and deploy integrated solutions for manufacturing clients.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.

Technical Stack Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience with MES technologies from AVEVA, Dassault, Siemens and other major OEM’s
  • Knowledge of manufacturing execution systems (MES), enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and other key industrial software platforms.
  • Familiarity with integration and deployment of these systems in manufacturing environments.
  • Strong technical skills in data management, system integration, and automation technologies.

Consultative Selling:

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities through consultative selling techniques.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, understanding their manufacturing needs and providing tailored solutions.
  • Develop and deliver compelling proposals and presentations to prospective clients.

Project Management:

  • Oversee project lifecycle from initiation to completion, ensuring successful delivery of client engagements.
  • Manage project risks, issues, and changes to ensure project success.
  • Monitor project performance and provide regular updates to stakeholders.

Data and Integration Skills:

  • Develop and implement data integration strategies to support seamless information flow across manufacturing systems.
  • Leverage data analytics to provide insights and drive decision-making processes.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to integrate various data sources and systems, ensuring a cohesive digital ecosystem.

Smart Manufacturing and Advanced Technologies:

  • Drive the adoption and implementation of smart manufacturing solutions, including IoT/IIoT, AI for manufacturing, and Industry 4.0 technologies.
  • Implement Digital Twin technologies to create virtual replicas of physical manufacturing processes and optimize performance.
  • Utilize AI and machine learning to enhance manufacturing efficiency, predictive maintenance, and quality control.
  • Stay current with advancements in smart manufacturing technologies and apply them to improve client operations.

Standards and Protocols:

  • Deep understanding and experience with ISA 95, RAMI 4.0, UNS (Unified Namespace), and IT-OT Integration.
  • Expertise in integrating and managing PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers), SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), and Historian systems.
  • Ability to implement and leverage these standards and protocols to ensure seamless and efficient manufacturing operations.

Intersection of Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Engineering:

  • Knowledge of the interplay between asset management, supply chain management, manufacturing processes, and engineering principles.
  • Ability to optimize supply chain operations in conjunction with manufacturing and engineering requirements.
  • Experience in aligning supply chain strategies with manufacturing capabilities and engineering design processes.

Industrial Automation, Instrumentation, and Control:

  • Extensive experience with industrial automation, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Proficiency in designing and implementing automated manufacturing systems to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.
  • Strong knowledge of control system architecture and the integration of various control systems within manufacturing operations.

Greenfield and Brownfield:

  • Proven experience in managing greenfield and brownfield factory projects from design to commissioning and sustenance.
  • Expertise in planning, designing, and executing new factory setups (greenfield) and upgrading existing facilities (brownfield).
  • Ability to ensure project sustainability and continuous improvement post-commissioning.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Key to this role, will be an individual who can continue to grow the existing MES business in Accenture

  • Identify business needs, develop value propositions, and contribute to the generation of compelling proposals.
  • Lead discovery sessions with customers to qualify opportunities.
  • Develop and articulate trends, implications, possibilities, and solutions; build compelling presentations to align with customer needs; deliver presentations to executive and mid-manager levels.
  • Own and manage the discovery phase with clients.
  • Leverage Challenger methodology to understand and challenge customer status quo.
  • Clearly articulate "why Accenture?" in non-technical and technical terms as required.
  • Manage and execute tactics using account-based research, social media, executive outreach, etc.
  • Collaborate with Industry Portfolio Directors and Country Managers/Sales Leaders to drive key business metrics.
  • Understand campaign/initiative value propositions and presentation materials.
  • Drive campaign execution with Industry, Marketing, and Sales teams.
  • Deliver sales enablement training on collateral as required.
  • Coordinate with PreSales to deliver effective, value-focused demonstrations.
  • Manage execution plans and report weekly progress.
  • Support the closing process if required.
  • Build a strategy and roadmap interacting with Senior Executives, including C-Suite, and execute selling experience across the Smart Manufacturing Digital Thread.
  • Sell and deliver complex projects with a high degree of technical and functional knowledge.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have 12 to 15 years of Industry experience with a strong grasp of heavy industry and technology/solutions.
  • At least 5 years of consulting or system integration experience.
  • Proven track record in South Africa is crucial.
  • Proven experience in carrying an individual quota and achieving targets.
  • Hands-on experience in shopfloor manufacturing operations and a strong understanding of end-to-end manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to articulate end-to-end digitalization messages to customers and map Accenture technology to customer requirements and vision.
  • Demonstrated capability to be a trusted advisor for clients within new or existing customers at various organizational levels.
  • Practical experience with Manufacturing Planning, MES, Quality, Scheduling, Plant and Process Simulation, and Manufacturing Intelligence software
  • Experience working with clients in IoT/IIoT and Industry 4.0-based solutions.
  • Experience with cloud-based technologies and deployment on-premise and in the cloud.
  • Proven written and presentation development skills, with strong skills in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Tableau.
  • Strong data and integration skills, with the ability to develop and implement data integration strategies.
  • Proven experience with smart manufacturing, Digital Twin technologies, and AI for manufacturing applications.
  • Demonstrated experience with SAP Digital Manufacturing, Siemens OpCenter, AVEVA, and SAP Production Planning.
