Position Responsibilities and Duties:
- Able to perform all essential Lead Estimator responsibilities.
- Oversees estimating daily activities, assist with resource management, and monitoring budgets.
- Provides reports and conduct cost analysis for assigned estimating activities/bids. Address concerns and make recommendations for improvements.
- Effectively interacts with internal and external stakeholders to maintain trusted partnerships.
- Supervise team member assignments and assist with coaching, mentoring, and hiring talent.
- Empowers team members to meet their job duties and responsibilities. May assist or contribute to performance evaluations of junior team members.
- Take lead in coordinating and/or executing estimating activities for various types of projects including complex projects (preparing estimates, take offs, bid day lead, document review, schedules, etc.)
- Oversees bid schedules and manages deliverable dates effectively.
- Organize and lead effective meetings (team meetings, proposal strategy, kick offs, etc.)
- Effectively transition projects to operations post bid award; support with buy out and cost related matters.
- Identify risks and provide mitigation recommendations throughout estimating and preconstruction phase.
- Review estimates/bids to identify improvement opportunities, ensure scopes are accurate, and provide guidance to make necessary changes.
- Negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers to secure favorable terms, pricing, and conditions.
- Manage Hard Bid(s) or GMP (Guaranteed Maximum Price) process.
- Manage subcontractor partnerships and ensure they are prequalified for current and prospective bids.
- Maintain databased updated with comprehensive records of estimates/costs for future reference.
- Provides high-level constructability reviews and value engineering support.
- Partner with operations to analyze lead opportunities and develop pursuits strategies to secure work.
- Assist with business development activities including proposals, interviews, attending industry events, etc.
- Actively promotes the self-perform business strategy.
- Complete other responsibilities as assigned
Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements:
- Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field; or equivalent working experience.
- Extensive experience in construction, including a focus on estimating roles.
- Strong working knowledge of:
- Construction cost and estimating processes and procedures (e.g., quantity takeoffs, purchasing, engineering design knowledge, and project management experience).
- Unit pricing, connectivity, and labor pricing.
- Construction projects in the public works arena, specifically in the Civic (e.g., community centers, libraries, police stations, firehouses, municipal buildings) and Education (e.g., K-12, higher education, dormitories, sports facilities) market sectors.
- State-specific public contracting laws, building codes, procurement requirements, and public bidding procedures.
- Building systems, including schematic and conceptual designs.
- Estimating and preconstruction services for Design-Build and Public-Private Partnership (P3) contracts.
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Skilled at managing and leading multiple bids effectively.
- Serves as a strong contributor to the selling and procurement of work.
- Proficient in Construction management software and platforms, including Microsoft 360 Suite, AIA Contract Documents, BuildingConnected, Destini Estimator, Primavera P6, CMiC, BIM 360, Revit, and Unanet.
- Ability to read and understand specifications, drawings, and BIM models.
- Ability to make accurate judgments and calculate associated risks.
- Experience in conceptualizing estimates from schematic or design documents.
- Maintains a robust network of Trade Partners and Vendors, both Union and Non-Union, serving public works projects.
