Role Overview

The Corporate Accounting Manager will assist with a transformation effort to develop new accounting processes commensurate with growth and change in the various businesses.

Transformation activities include establishing accounting practices, enhancing accounting processes, controls, systems and developing improved reporting of accounting results.   Corporate Accounting is responsible for core accounting, financial reporting, external audit management, regulatory reporting, and the establishment of internal controls. The individual must have strong technical accounting knowledge of both IFRS and US GAAP.

What You Will Do

  • Support accounting function, in areas that include but not limited to: journal entry preparation and review, variance analysis, financial statement review
  • Support the monthly and year-end close and including production of various financial reports for senior management
  • Respond to inquiries from management, auditors and regulatory agencies regarding accounting policies, procedures
  • Drive risk mitigation activities that uncover and address control risks that impact accounting processes.  Risk mitigation activities could include introducing new technology, automating processes using existing tools, streamlining processes.
  • Evaluate and implement new accounting related processes to address evolving needs of the existing business and emerging distribution channels in areas that include but are not limited to: revenue/billing operations, capitalization and expense processes, financial system integration
  • Work closely with business unit finance staff to identify new initiatives, business activities, and other matters that may have accounting implications and develop processes for these matters
  • Fidelity Canada is a dynamic business, this role will assist with ad-hoc projects focused on process implementation or re-engineering as special projects arise.

 What We’re Looking For

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA required)
  • Masters or University degree or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with progressively more advanced accounting, financial analysis and operations work required
  • Thorough understanding of IFRS and proficiency in financial statement analysis
  • Prior experience in a public accounting or accounting role
  • Experience in asset management and wealth industry is a strong asset
