Overview:

This position is responsible for the delivery of second line Enterprise Risk Management analytics and reporting services in line with area policies, industry standards, and management expectations. This position will be responsible for supporting the evolving landscape of the risk management environment and assisting to identify efficiencies in risk management through data analytics. The position requires the ability to function with a level of independence in the oversight and/or execution of one or more activities in a manner that adheres to the expectations of the enterprise risk framework, as it evolves, and the expectations of key stakeholders, up to and including the Board. The position has a comprehensive understanding of the business, products or services of M&T and continues to work towards gaining further knowledge/expertise.  The successful candidate will be experienced in data analytics utilizing SQL or similar analytics tools and can influence others to determine approaches and scope requirements.  The role is highly analytical and includes the development of ad hoc reporting, data analysis, reporting (including knowledge of report automaton and delivery) and will require the summarization of analysis output for stakeholders.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide Data analytics for Enterprise Risk stakeholders.
  • Understand and utilize the Risk Management Framework, use our framework as a guide to ensure alignment to requests, specifications and to perform data analytics.
  • Develop and produce complex and ad hoc reports, spreadsheets and project work related to various risk disciplines based on required frequency (e.g. daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly). 
  • Assist the Enterprise Risk Manager with Server or Database Support internally and liaison to Central Technology.
  • Assist in the collection, analysis of data, and preparation of materials/presentations for management. In some circumstances deliver presentations to business partners and management. 
  • Perform routine analysis and judgment-based work over singular or related disciplines to support business decisions. Review the work of others for accuracy through a peer review process. 
  • With oversight, serve as a liaison to assigned business units (BUs) or risk pillars.  Collaborate in a coordinated manner when addressing risk of the business line. Escalate significant and/or unresolved risk-related matters to Department management. May interact with risk and executive management, lines of business, and support organizations such as Internal Audit and Legal. 
  • Participate in continuous improvement of existing processes and develop new processes, as well as, in the planning and implementation of new projects, programs, and plans to achieve short and long term business objectives.
  • Automation of manual reporting and, or, automation of manual processes and delivery via automated report scheduling.
  • With minimal oversight, draft/document departmental procedures and other documentation to demonstrate processes. Support efforts to develop and improve training and materials utilized by the department and/or the Bank.
  • Indirect participation in specific regulatory inquiries, examinations and ongoing periodic status updates. 
  • Serve as representative in various risk related meetings.  Ensure the communication of relevant concerns or positions are taken to appropriate management. 
  • Meet training requirements assigned by the Bank, Division and Department through self-management of appropriate, applicable, cost-effective training opportunities.  Proactively pursue knowledge of new bank initiatives (i.e. Agile project management methodology).
  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management. 
  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned

Scope of Responsibilities:

The incumbent will be responsible for Enterprise Risk Management activities as assigned, as well as, build the necessary Bank-wide partnerships to support the enterprise risk division. Activities may include:

  •  Support the CRO and the Bank through the management of governance and enterprise risk processes.
  •  Support activities for laws and rules that apply across the Enterprise. 
  •  Stay abreast of evolving themes in risk, especially those impacting technology, systems, or data, understanding various internal and external factors that may impact the Bank.
  •  Analyze information to identify risks and trending, summarize findings discovered through analysis.
  •  Independently evaluate the area's management of key processes for the effective and efficient mitigation of risk.  
  •  Provides data, analytics and reporting that support the identification, assessment, monitoring, mitigation, and reporting of all significant risks.
  •  Develop, administer, and monitor training regarding data, analytics, or technology initiatives, lead activities for the Risk Division.
  •  Support the automation of processes.
  •  Support risk pillar specific processes as needed.

Managerial/Supervisory Responsibilities:

No direct management but may provide guidance to junior specialists

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, MIS, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics or similar fields of study and 4 years’ experience in risk, reporting and analytics,

OR in lieu of degree, combined minimum 8 years higher education and/or work experience, including minimum 4 years in risk, reporting and analytics, governance, or other relevant function. 
SQL Expertise

Education and Experience Preferred:

Experience with Archer eGrc and functional knowledge of Issues Management

Knowledge of Hadoop / Snowflake, Enterprise Level Data Processes

Experience with Power BI, Jira, Power Apps.
Knowledge of risk analytics and reporting, including the development, implementation and use of all relevant decision technologies, such as eGRC systems.

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $71,985.72 - $119,976.20 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
