Registered Nurse (RN) Specialist – Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation

As an RN Specialist, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing all aspects of therapy for cardiac and pulmonary patients. Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation prevents readmissions and cares for complex patients with cardiac problems and disease, such as valve replacements, CABG, stents, MI, heart failure, PAD and pulmonary disease.
A caregiver in this position works 8:00am – 5:30pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Evaluate patient's clinical status and provide recommended rehab services as per protocol.
Utilize assessment skills in providing patient care in all phases of cardiac rehabilitation.
Educate patients/families about cardiopulmonary diseases and treatments.
Participate in case management and discharge planning conferences with other interdisciplinary staff.
Document patient progress and collaborate with various members of the healthcare team to meet patient needs.
Develop rehabilitative goals to prevent progression of heart and lung disease (exercise prescription, activities of daily living, risk factor reduction, prevention of exacerbations, etc.).
Assist in coordinating patient care and developing new programs, educational materials and policies/procedures.
Assist in developing and evaluating performance improvement standards.
Remain flexible in working between all phases of rehabilitation, cardiopulmonary procedures and as indicated in the Heart Center.
Attend continuing education programs to facilitate professional growth.
Support and participate in community wellness programs.
Serve as a preceptor for university students in nursing, health and exercise physiology.
Promote and assist in marketing strategies for the promotion of outpatient cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs.
Maintain patient records and statistics.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
Bachelor’s degree in a related health field and/or a master’s degree.
Current state licensure in Ohio as a Registered Nurse (RN).
Two years of nursing experience in coronary care, critical care and/or med/surg.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
One year of cardiac and/or pulmonary rehabilitation experience.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
Knowledge of exercise physiology.

Physical Requirements:
Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
Requires some exposure to communicable disease or bodily fluids.
Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
