Join Our Team! We’re looking for a motivated and skilled actuary to join us in a hybrid role based in Long Island City, NY. This position offers the best of both worlds - collaborative in-office work up to three days per week, and the flexibility to work remotely on other days. Occasional travel may be required depending on business needs.

Position Purpose: Conduct complex financial analysis, risk assessment, and negotiation support focusing specifically on Value-Based Care (VBC) arrangements and performance analytics related to external vendors, to estimate, influence, and optimize financial outcomes.

To be considered for this Senior Actuary role, candidates must have: an ASA or FSA designation, MAAA membership, a bachelor’s degree, and either 7+ years of actuarial experience with ASA certification or 5+ years with FSA certification.

In this Senior Actuary role, you will:

  • Apply knowledge of mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business to design, model, financially engineer, and evaluate emerging trends and identify opportunities
  • Lead the development of sophisticated financial models to assess financial risk and opportunity associated with trends and track partial payments to providers and determine receivables
  • Provide robust analytical support and subject matter expertise during negotiations with external vendors, defend analytical methodologies, and clearly articulate the company's financial positions.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal matrix partners (including, but not limited to, Medical Economics, Enterprise Partnerships, Network Management, Clinical Operations, Finance, and Data Analytics teams) to ensure forecasts and actual results are accurate

Highly preferred:

  • Experience in health actuarial/analytics/data science. Preference for someone with hands-on experience in VBC contract modeling, financial engineering, and analysis within a payer environment.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced Excel modeling, strong SQL for data analysis, understanding of healthcare data structures. Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI); broader statistical programming experience (R, Python if not already required).
  • Negotiation & Communication: Proven ability to negotiate complex financial/analytical terms externally and explain sophisticated concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • VBC Expertise (preferred but not required): Deep understanding of various VBC models (shared savings/risk, capitation, bundles), including baseline setting, risk adjustment, performance metrics, and reconciliation logic.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or related field.   
  • 7+ years of actuarial experience and Associate in Society of Actuaries (ASA) certification;
  • OR, 5+ years of actuarial experience and Fellow in Society of Actuaries (FSA) certification.

License/Certification: Fellow or Associate in Society of Actuaries (or equivalent international certification); Member of American Academy of Actuaries (or equivalent international membership).

Location: Long Island City, NY (Hybrid)

Work Arrangement: This is a hybrid role based in our Long Island City office. The position requires working onsite up to three days per week, with the flexibility to work remotely on other days. Occasional travel may be required depending on business needs.

Pay Range: $132,000.00 - $244,100.00 per year

Centene offers a comprehensive benefits package including: competitive pay, health insurance, 401K and stock purchase plans, tuition reimbursement, paid time off plus holidays, and a flexible approach to work with remote, hybrid, field or office work schedules.  Actual pay will be adjusted based on an individual's skills, experience, education, and other job-related factors permitted by law, including full-time or part-time status.  Total compensation may also include additional forms of incentives. Benefits may be subject to program eligibility.
