This role offers a hybrid work schedule; offering the flexibility to work remotely two days a week, while providing the opportunity for in-person collaboration.  Sponsorship is NOT available for this position.

The Data Privacy Specialist will report to our Senior Enterprise Data Manager and will play a crucial role in ensuring that our organization maintains the highest standards of data protection and consumer privacy. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to assess and mitigate data privacy risks.

What To Expect (Job Responsibilities)

  • Conduct regular data audits and assessments to ensure accurate data classification and adherence to established policies.

  • Classify data according to its sensitivity level and ensure it is managed according to best practices.

  • Collaborate with the Data Management team on the implementation of data management tools and technologies to support data classification and governance efforts.

  • Collaborate with the Digital Data Record Retention team on the execution of the data retention strategy.

  • Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) for new projects, processes, and systems.

  • Assess and monitor third-party vendors for compliance with privacy requirements and data protection agreements.

  • Evaluate the impact of emerging technologies and initiatives on data privacy and provide recommendations for mitigating privacy risks.

  • Assist in developing and administering privacy training and awareness campaigns.

  • Assist team with the implementation of the Data Protection & Privacy strategy & programs.

  • Communicate program progress and issue analysis to key stakeholders.

  • Proactively identify and solve problems related to data privacy compliance.

What Is Required (Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of experience in privacy compliance or a related field.

  • Experience with Agile software development life-cycles

  • General understanding of IT risk management and mitigation controls, data governance, and regulatory controls and compliance

  • Familiarity with data management tools, technologies, and industry standards.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

  •  Excellent communication skills in English

  • Grows professionally by focusing on continuous improvements and staying abreast of privacy and cybersecurity issues and best practices.

How To Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience in Privacy by Design

  • Preferred professional certifications in data privacy, data governance, or related fields (e.g., CIPT, CIPP, CDPSE, CDMP).

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $119,400.84 - $199,001.40 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
