Position Summary
The Pulmonary Morphology Core provides investigators with extensive technical support in the fixation and processing of tissue specimens from all organ systems, sectioning of embedded samples, and multiple staining methods. Customer service is a priority, and the Core strives to make sure that tissue histology services are held to the highest standards. Specific expertise required in tissue fixation, embedding (fixed or frozen), sectioning, and broad staining methods.
The successful recruit will be expected to work as part of the team with two other experienced certified histotechnologists in the Pulmonary Morphology Core. Daily operations will include order processing, working with precious tissues in an efficient and time-dependent manner, sharing in responsibilities of daily operations (stocking materials and supplies, equipment upkeep, budgeting, and quality control.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepares histology sections by processing tissue and embedding, cutting, staining prepared sections, and processing slides.
- Prepares frozen histology sections.
- Performs general maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Cleans and prepares staining set, monitors processing, and ensures consistent quality
- May be required to perform special techniques such as immunohistochemical techniques and stains and cutting of frozen tissue.
- Assists supervisor with other duties and special projects as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators.
- Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
- Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment.
- Experience in working in a basic laboratory setting.
- Specific experience or training in histotechnology will be strongly considered.
- Background in medical office/laboratory with willingness to learn histology.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.

Salary Range
$17.34 - $25.40 / Hourly
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
