Blip is a leading tech company focused on software engineering solutions for sports entertainment.
We operate at scale. As part of Flutter Entertainment, we play an essential role in the Group's goal of becoming the global leader in online sports betting and iGaming, developing innovative products and platforms for over 14 million monthly customers worldwide.
We are serious about Tech. We are problem-solvers with big ambitions, keeping a people-first mindset at the core of our work. We prioritize flexibility as we strive to deliver the best technological products and tackle the greatest industry challenges.
Recognizing that everyone brings their own strengths, backgrounds and new perspectives, we empower you to be yourself. That uniqueness shapes the culture of belonging we are so proud of.
The Role
We power the products our customers love by building and operating the foundational Infrastructure & Platforms that our engineering depends on — private cloud, data centres, core infrastructure services, and the reliability guardrails that keep them safe. When the business drives forward, it’s our platforms that enable progress by providing the foundations for success.
We’re engineers and leaders who take ownership, reduce complexity, and turn stability into momentum for the teams building customer experiences across our brands.
As Head of Platform Engineering, you’ll be responsible for driving the simplification and stability of our core hosting platforms — reducing complexity, operational risk, and cost-to-serve while improving the platform experience for every engineering team that depends on them.
You’ll lead senior engineering leaders and teams operating a business-critical, regulated estate. Your decisions will directly shape reliability, delivery speed, and our ability to modernise safely at pace.
What You’ll Be Doing
· Own and modernise private cloud, data centre and core infrastructure platforms (capacity, lifecycle, DR, and service performance).
· Drive simplification through decommissioning, consolidation and automation — reducing KTLO and operational toil.
· Raise reliability: availability/SLO performance, incident reduction, repeat-issue elimination, and strong operational hygiene.
· Lead security and resilience execution: patching, vulnerability remediation, backup/restore assurance and DR testing with evidence.
· Set the strategy and translate it into delivery: clear OKRs, measurable plans, and consistent execution across BAU + change.
· Build a high-performing leadership team: coaching, development, engagement, and sustainable on-call health.
· Establish standards that stick: documentation, golden configurations, guardrails and governance that teams trust.
· Run the commercials: vendor management, cost control, utilisation improvements, and accountable performance outcomes.
· Partner across the organisation to align delivery across Reliability Services, Cloud Platform Engineering, Architecture, Security and key suppliers.
· Lead with a platform-as-product mindset: clear ownership, roadmap thinking, and relentless focus on user experience for engineers.
· Use data to drive decisions: incident trends, change lead time, automation coverage, config drift, utilisation, SLOs and compliance SLAs.
· Balance “right now” outcomes with long-term foundations — simplifying the estate without creating tomorrow’s problems.
· Communicate with impact at every level: engineers, senior leaders, and non-technical stakeholders.
· Build a culture of ownership, transparency, and continuous improvement — not heroics.
What You’ll Bring
· Proven senior leadership experience running critical infrastructure/platform services at scale (availability, resilience, compliance).
· Track record of simplification (decommissioning, consolidation, automation) that measurably reduces toil and improves stability.
· Strong operational governance: incident management, RCA discipline, change controls, DR/backup assurance.
· Ability to set strategy, define OKRs, and deliver through multiple teams with pace and accountability.
· Excellent stakeholder and vendor management — confident at C-level and credible deep in the engineering detail.
· A people-first leadership style that builds capability, engagement and sustainable performance.
We'd Like You To Master In
· Lower incident rates, fewer repeat issues, and a simpler, well-documented estate that teams can rely on.
· Reduced KTLO and manual toil, with faster and safer change through automation.
· Lower unit costs and improved utilisation, with strong vendor performance and clear guardrails.
· Strong operational evidence: patch/vulnerability SLAs, DR and restore test results, and accurate asset/CMDB hygiene.
