Do you have a positive attitude, a good work ethic, and are excited about the thought of working on the deck of a tugboat? If so, we have an opportunity for a Deckhand to join our team in Onslow, WA, on an unrostered 75% permanent part-time basis.
In this role, you’ll have a minimum commitment to work 91 days per year (equivalent to 50% of the annual number of days worked by a full-time employee).
We offer capped reimbursement for travel expenses incurred to and from Onslow or Karratha, with the option of FIFO from Perth to Karratha. Accommodation will be provided, either aboard the tug or within onshore facilities.
What You Can Look Forward To
As a Deckhand, you'll gain hands-on experience in the operational aspects of towage and collaborate closely with skilled crew members. This position offers the opportunity to develop your maritime skills, work as part of a dedicated team, and play a key role in supporting our towage operations in the port.
What You Will Do
Reporting to the Port Manager and the Tug Master onboard , your key responsibilities will include:
Carrying out routine checks, preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment and machinery.
Handling and securing ropes and lines during various tasks and operations.
Overseeing stores and equipment, ensuring that items are readily accessible and maintained in good condition.
Utilising computer-based safety management and planned maintenance systems to support compliance and operational efficiency.
Adhering to all company policies and procedures, ensuring they align with statutory obligations and industry standards.
Ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, including waste management, and pollution prevention.
Participating in exercises aimed at enhancing operational procedures and practices.
What You Will Need To Succeed
To thrive position, you will demonstrate:
Minimum General Purpose Hand Near Coastal Certificate of Competency or higher.
Current statements of attainment in Provide First Aid and Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
A current AMSA Medical applicable to your Certificate of Competency
A valid MSIC or ‘Job Ready’ MSIC Application (or proof of ability to obtain)
A genuine passion for the maritime industry and working on deck.
Motivation towards safe workplace behaviours, practices and compliance.
Willingness to collaborate effectively with team members, through clear communication, mutual respect, and support.
A calm and focused composure during high-pressure situations and emergencies.
Ability to work under pressure, particularly in emergency situations
Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written
Demonstrate resilience and problem-solving skills to handle unexpected challenges.
