Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Licenses and Credentials: Certified Registered Central Service Technician [CRCST] - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) required
Experience: related experience 2-3 years required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong patient/customer service skills.
- Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
- Knowledge of case cart assembly Strong attention to detail.
- Familiarity with the regulatory standards of materials management.
- Knowledge of sterilization procedures, aseptic technique, and maintenance and care of instruments and equipment.

Under the general guidance and direction of the CSPS Training and Staff Development Manager, the Central Sterile Processing Staff Development Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that all required departmental training and associated documentation are completed as assigned. The supervisor oversees and supervises the Staff Development Coordinators, ensuring their work is accurate and up to date. Working collaboratively with Clinical Operations, the Staff Development Supervisor also supports the coordination of training program logistics, including registration, material preparation, reporting, and communication, and actively participates in the training of student interns and new employees while maintaining competency in all core sterile processing functions.
1. Training and Orientation:
A) Designs and iImplements all aspects of the training and orientation including teaching formal classes as part of the orientation program for new employees and affiliated students.
B) Oversees Staff Development Coordinators to ensure systematic follow-up with all SPD employees to ensure competency of basic Sterile Processing skills and adequate integration into their technical role.
C) Evaluates new hires and trainees' work performance and recommends management, employees’ continuation of employment.
D) Prepares and trains new training coordinators to ensure that practices of the industry and policies of the Hospital are followed.
E) Identifies specific skills sets in need of development department wide, develops appropriate action plan and works with Staff Development Coordinators to implement.
F) Under the guidance of the Training Manager, coordinates with Operating Room Clinical Nurse Specialists to schedule and facilitate orientation for new Operating Room employees and Sterile Processing Department (SPD) student clinical rotations within the Operating Rooms.
G) Collects, tracks, and analyzes training-related data, including enrollment and completion trends, and prepares reports using statistical tables and graphical summaries to support training program evaluation and improvement.
H) Educates staff on new evidence-based SPD technologies, as well as updates to policies and procedures, and assists in evaluating the effectiveness and adoption of these innovations.
I) Coordinates departmental competency programs, orientation activities, and in-service education programs, while maintaining accurate and up-to-date training records for all department employees.
J) Monitors the educational progress of SPD technicians preparing for certification examinations, tracks certification status for credentialed employees, and provides guidance and support with recertification requirements as needed.
K) Develops and implements a preceptor-based training program, under the direction of the Training Manager, for hospital units performing sterilization or high-level disinfection processes.
L) Collaborates with technical colleges to develop and implement a Clinical Internship Program that provides onsite training for provisionally certified students; evaluates intern performance at the conclusion of the internship and provides management with hiring recommendations when appropriate.
M) Under the direction of the Sterile Processing Training Manager, develops and provides educational resources and best-practice tools to affiliated MGH campuses to support their SPD training and development needs.
2.) Technical and Clinical Competence:
A) Assists CSPS in maintaining Joint Commission standards in relation to staff competencies.
B) Develops, implements, reviews and revises annual competency program for CSPS employees as it relates to advancement in sterile processing technology.
C) Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to educate staff in the provision of care appropriate to the Sterile Processing Department.
D) Assists the department Director in reviewing and updating department policies.
3.) Quality Improvement and Research:
A) Remains knowledgeable of unit-based quality improvement projects and assists staff to identify appropriate follow-up interventions based on quality of the QI findings.
B) Utilizes quality improvement and research findings to enhance CSPS.
C) Demonstrates ability to research, efficiently obtain and appropriately utilize necessary resources such as AAMI, IASCHMM, and AORN.
4.) Professional Development:
A) A) Assumes responsibility for maintaining own certification, knowledge, and competencies in CSPS.
B) Actively participates in local IAHCSMM Chapter, sharing relevant industry changes with leadership.
