Job Description:

Role Summary

Reporting to the AVP, Strategy, Digital Enterprise and Analytics, the Director, GB (Group Benefits) Analytics will be responsible for the development, management and delivery of analytics business support to Group Benefits business teams.  The leader in this role will manage a highly skilled team of employees focused on analytics and data engineering and will collaborate with analytic teams across Sun Life to support delivery of initiatives.

What will you do?

Business Support

  • Develop, manage and deliver analytics business support to GB business teams.

  • Areas currently with dedicated analytics support include Group Underwriting (e.g. Underwriting Workflow Dashboarding) and GB Finance (e.g. Finance Data Engineering).

  • Collaborate with analytics resources in all relevant technical teams (GB Analytics, Health Analytics, Client Experience Office Analytics, IT).

  • Support the Canadian Dental Care Program analytics requirements until April 2025 and potentially further into the future as required.

Foundational Data

  • Continue the journey of ingesting source data into the Enterprise Data Lake and engineering processed data for analytics use.

  • Manage the key initiative budget for data ingestion, resourced through IT.

  • Prioritise and lead delivery of GB data engineering needs to enable GB Plan Sponsor and Advisor level analysis for both internal and external use cases.

  • Embed best-practices aligned to the Client Experience Office and Centres of Excellence.

Gen AI Program

  • Develop and maintain a program of Gen AI across Group Benefits to create business value through productivity and efficiency gains.

  • Run ideation sessions with GB stakeholders to feed the GB Gen AI backlog.

  • Partner with the Client Experience Office on ideation, prioritization & drive delivery of Gen AI use cases. 

  • Coordinate MVP test-and-learn opportunities by engaging the Client Experience Office Data Science COE to develop pilots for priority Gen AI uses cases.

  • Coordinate scaling successful pilots with IT and other relevant functions (Risk, GB Digital Enterprise Platform) to drive adoption within the business.

Leadership

  • Attract, retain, coach and develop top talent to deliver on GB Business Analytics roadmap.

  • Collaborate with Director, GB Sponsor and Advisor Analytics where needed to support delivery of prioritised initiatives.

What do you need to succeed?

  • 7+ years of analytical experience with 3+ years of recent experience in business analytics/BI and/or developing and implementing data science techniques (predictive, prescriptive, ML, etc)

  • B.Sc. Computer Science, Mathematics, Stats, Engineering, and Masters in Management Analytics or MBA or equivalent work experience                 

  • 3+ years of leading a data analytics team, or equivalent experience as a senior member of a team leading projects and providing managerial support (e.g onboarding, coaching, escalations, performance feedback)

  • Expert knowledge and experience in data analytics and application in business strategy for effective decision making

  • Demonstrate drive for, and application of, continuous learning on innovations in advanced analytics and industry developments

  • Proven ability to solve complex business problems.

  • Strong inclination to proactively share knowledge and expertise with others to build the data analytics community and capability in the broader company around data analytics

  • Expert verbal, written, and presentation skills to communicate and frame complex information simply for senior leader decision making on complex business issues

  • Considered an expert in among peers on one or more aspects of data analytics and the business

  • Ability to interact independently, confidently and competently with AVP+ level stakeholders

  • Knowledge of the GB business is preferred

  • As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.

  • The candidate selected for this role is required to attain Canadian Reliability Security Clearance (administered by submitting fingerprints to the RCMP, who then conduct min. 5 year history checks)

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
