Position Summary:
AutoNation Finance is a rapidly growing lending business that provides financing to AutoNation customers purchasing used vehicles. Building on a proven track record of aggressive growth, we are leveraging technology to support portfolio expansion while maintaining excellent customer service and driving down the costs of loan origination and servicing. Our technology team is transforming AutoNation Finance’s systems from modernizing legacy platforms, to implementing industry leading AI servicing solutions to improve efficiency and customer service.
As Senior Director Technology, you will drive all AutoNation Finance technology initiatives, partnering with senior business leaders to develop and execute a strategic technology roadmap that supports both rapid growth and operational excellence. You will oversee the portfolio of AutoNation Finance applications and systems, ensuring they are secure, stable, and scalable to meet evolving business needs. You will manage technology resource demand and delivery, build and develop a high-performing technology team, and ensure all solutions are designed to be compliant, cost-effective, and future-ready. Your leadership will be critical in enabling AutoNation Finance to deliver innovative, customer-centric solutions while maintaining the highest standards of security, compliance and efficiency.

Organizational Relationships:
This position will report to the Vice President of Technology and is responsible for interfacing with AutoNation’s executive team and a broad range of leaders across our Operations, Sales, Service, Finance and Technology organizations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Partnership & Roadmap Development: Partner with AutoNation Finance senior business leaders to develop and maintain a strategic technology roadmap that delivers solutions aligned with key business initiatives and supports daily operations.
  • Solution Delivery: Manage the delivery of technology solutions, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget, while meeting agreed-upon scope and functionality commitments.
  • Portfolio & Systems Management: Oversee the portfolio of AutoNation Finance applications and systems, ensuring they are well maintained, secure, and operate within established performance and stability SLAs.
  • Work Intake & Resource Management: Manage work intake and demand for technology resources, balancing business needs with efficient and timely delivery and support.
  • Team Building & Development: Build, grow, and develop the AutoNation Finance technology team, ensuring adequate resources, succession planning, and effective use of AutoNation’s shared resource teams for maximum efficiency.
  • Solution Design & Compliance: Ensure technology solutions are well designed to meet current and future business needs, with a focus on security, compliance, and cost effectiveness.
  • Governance & Performance: Establish plans, processes, and departmental strategies to meet objectives, track and report on performance, and ensure alignment with long-term AutoNation strategies.
  • Budget & Vendor Management: Manage approved budgets, oversee hiring activities, and own strategic partnerships with major vendors.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Interact with executive leadership, client departments, and other Technology teams; represent AutoNation Finance and enhance the organization’s image.
  • Partner with Technology leaders on ongoing development of enterprise technology and solution delivery strategy

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or related field; advanced degree highly desirable.
  • 16+ years of relevant experience, including previous management experience.
  • Proven track record in technology leadership, strategic planning, and team development.
  • Experience managing complex application portfolios and technology operations in a finance or automotive environment preferred.
  • Excellent understanding of solution/product delivery methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of security, compliance, and cost management in technology solutions.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills for collaborating with senior leadership.
  • Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights
  • Must meet company’s requirements for employment

The anticipated base salary: $198,500–$230,000, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and geographic location. This position is also eligible for an annual performance-based bonus, in accordance with the company's applicable incentive plan.
