Mental Health Professionals Make a Difference
At NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center; our Mental Health professionals unite the most respected minds in research, education, and care. We are home to some of the nation's top clinicians and researchers in behavioral health. It is a proud tradition - and a premier opportunity. As a component of the medical center's Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP), the Mobile Crisis Service provides outreach to individuals living in Washington Heights, Inwood, and nearby neighborhoods of the Bronx who are experiencing a psychiatric crisis but have been unable to access mental health treatment. Members of our multi-disciplinary team make home visits in order to engage the individual, assess the nature of their clinical needs, and determine the types of services that best support those needs. We make interventions to reduce the immediate severity of the crisis and refer the individual to other indicated resources, including outpatient clinics, detox and substance abuse treatment programs, social support services, and psychiatric emergency rooms.
